Barbados may have Underestimated Jamaican batsmen

Wed, Apr 15, '26 at 8:30 PM

Barbados declared too quickly, they should have batted on but I guess they were influenced by the poor batting display by Jamaica over recent seasons and totally underestimated the Jamaican batsmen. The Jamaican openers brought back memories of past great Jamaican batsmen with such a brilliant performance today. However let’s see which Jamaican team will show up at the next match but for now congratulations Jamaica, big up yourselves!!

may have??? They clearly did. They were correct to declare as the point is to win a match not just to draw but they did not contemplate that JA would have gone for the runs rather than just try to hang on for a draw.

@Slipfeeler

Was a good declaration. They could not have predicted that response.

@Slipfeeler

Well didn’t Bim win the last eight (or is it nine) four day matches against JA?

They should have given some thought to the fact that Campbell and McKenzie are test players.

Given the 1st innings runrate, I didn’t think we’d get 324 on day four. Was real sweet.

@Chrissy

Twas sweet indeed. Stuff of legends

@Slipfeeler

This win brought back to mind a match between JA and Guyana in 1970 or 1971 when JA had to get over 200 to win on the last day or hold on for a draw. Don't remember if Skipper Lloyd had declared or was bowled out. Anyway, it was the type of situation where at best you thought that JA would hold on for a draw. Ja started batting in the period between lunch and tea. However, Lawrence Rowe and Victor Fray had other ideas. I believe the base for JA's victory was setup by both with some good running between the stumps, taking some cheeky singles which kept JA in the game and made the game winnable. The game was won on the last ball of the day when Livern (Brukup) Wellington hit Lloyd for four. One of the most exciting games that I ever listened to on the radio. Anyone here remember that game?

@Slippy

Dem things happen in cricket once in a while

they overestimated their bowling attack too especially the fast bowlers who are mediocre .

@velo

First real sinsible post on this tread: All the rest posting nonsense

Bim overestimated their poor bowling attack

and underestimated the Jamaican batting.

Both bowling attacks were poor

I watch a lot of the game, except for being so disappointing with play that I tuned in to other games.

Both team bowled mostly at least 2 bad balls per over

Better batting would have seen scores of over 500.

Most bastmen got out to poor shots.

Jamaica bowling is rubbish

Bim bowling is rubbish minus La Cucarachas, Holder and even Chase

I realize that with their win, the Jamaican supporters saw a great game

I saw a Great result.

The ends do not always justify the means.

In simple words, good result does not mean good game.

Warrican (the only above grade bowler) was very poor.

Braffit captaincy was extremely poor as usual.

  1. Allowing Smith to farm the strike in the first innings
  2. Lack of attacking incoming batsmen.
  3. Not using Layne more in 2nd innings
  4. Now using Warrican early in 2nd innings.

Braffit should not even be captain with Windes VC in team.

People, think before you type and use a critical lens when examining games.

Cricket was poor. It was like watching a school boy game.

@TanteMerle

Mostly good comments but I think Mindley bowled well.

In my opinion, Campbell surprised everyone, if it was not for his inning the match most likely would have ended in a draw. Initially I thought that Kraigg declared too late.

Correct!!!

@dayne

respect to Campbell. He was batting well in the first innings too and then gave way his hand to foolish bowling. Didnt make that mistake second innings

@Slipfeeler

Question: first innings "points "no longer count?

As I, being BIM would have batted on.

So a draw now is just that? And if a team draw one, win one, and lose one, what's the tie breaker?

@Chrissy

Mostly good comments but I think Mindley bowled well.

He was the only one who seemed to figure out where to pitch the ball all game. Bajan players on the field either batting or bowling say none of this all game.

Mindley found a spot where the ball died and kept low and he attacked it consistently. Bajan fast bowlers were all over the place.

Great job by JA in both innings batting. It/s 4 day cricket not lick-it cricket. I enjoyed the fight by JA!!
