As much as the mass switch of allegiances leaves a bitter taste , this ruling seems to be a blatant restraint of trade which amounts to unlawful limitations on athletes mobility and commercial freedom. They stand a good chance to prevail should they challenge this ruling in court…
I hate the fact that we are losing our athletes but I am also very sad that our people have to switch allegiance to make a proper living. I do not like this ruling. Athletes should have the same fundamental right as any professional to choose where they live and work. Jamaica has long developed world class talent, not only in sports but also in fields like nursing and education, yet those professionals routinely migrate to the USA, Canada, and England without restriction. It is inconsistent to allow that freedom for some while denying it to athletes. Their careers are short, physically demanding, and financially uncertain. Preventing them from switching nationality limits their ability to maximize earnings, access better resources, and fully realize their potential in a globalized world that otherwise promotes labor mobility.

I can see and appreciate your opinions on this and can agree somewhat.
However I do not like the Poaching of athletes from other countries.
The more prudent way to me is for both poachers and athletes is to seek dual
citizenshjp if that is a possible from the Poaching country.
Jamaica does allow for such duality especially with Commonwealth countries. Turkey is not in that Domain.
But at least this approach would look more sanitized.
Although she was well past her best, Merlene Ottey did become a citizen ((dual too I suppose) with a European country and competed in the Olympics for them. I think she still lives there. And did not have to renounce her born Country ,Jamaica, connections.
To a greater point, the International Federation should be looking to reward athletes in very tangible financial ways to avoid this practice and where poorer counties such as Jamaica are concerned this
would be a huge deterrent while giving comfort and rewarding careers to athletes who embark are
the backbone of the Sport.
