Describe the proceedings rather than tell us how they would run the show if they were cappo or coach.

Transistor radio days. They forced to paint the picture for the listener. But to be honest now captains of the past like Lloyd, Worrell and Richards are not around anymore those which demands respect and most commentators were publicly afraid to undermine.

I do, I remember very good commentators in most sports. They were masters of describing. Today they concentrate on criticizing.

Best commentator I ever heard was John Arlott....first heard him in 1950 WI vs Eng series as a pre teen and several years after

it’s very different commentating for radio listeners versus television and streaming audiences.

Case in point, listen to radio commentary of a football match versus television commentary. VERY DIFFERENT.
