Similarities....both lack/lacked concentration...could be out to an innocuous delivery at anytime even when well set...more often than not they dismiss themselves...both is/was very talented ...Hoops should have been Guyana's greatest ever on par with Lara an Richards in terms of recognition....Hettie obviously not in Hoops class but seems destined to be heading down the same path an classified as an unfulfilled talent....wonder if a sports psychologist could do anything with Hettie??
Hettie & Hooper

talent is only 1/10th of greatness. And in cricket you don’t need to be particularly talented to be great. Steve Waugh, one of the least talented cricketers ever to don whites is an absolute legend of the game. Hard work, discipline, self control are all more important factors in the success of an international cricketer. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar was nowhere as talented as Carl Hooper, but he finished with an average of 53, and it was as high as 56 for a long time. I would rather take a hard worker who knows his craft inside out than a naturally gifted dude. You might get an extraordinary performance …..once in a while. But a solid worker will give you consistent performances day in day out.
i will say this. Part of Hooper’s problem was that the media in the Caribbean took a long time to focus on his mediocre returns. Brian Lara was supposedly the scourge of WI cricket from 96-99(the prodigal son turned messiah series) and everyone trained their guns on him. It was only when Lara performances contrasted so heavily with the rest of the team in 1999 that people started asking serious questions about Hooper being in international cricket 11 years and having little to show for it

In complete agreement....yuh could also throw Shiv into the mix as not been particularly gifted but hardwork an dedication elevated him to be considered as one of Guyana's finest if not thee finest .....but going back to Hettie would a sports psychologist help to rid him of his lackadaisical skin-teet dotishness??
