Kamla seriously miscalculated
...................
Can you tell me how she miscalculated?
T&T under the PNM never increased Natural gas production. They found no new deposits in a decade.
End result Plants at Pt Lisas were closing down.
This is what this government inherited.
Nutrien: As of January 1, 2026, fertilizer giant Nutrien had its gas supply cut off by the National Gas Company (NGC) and its operations at Point Lisas remain shut. This included four ammonia plants and one urea plant.
Proman: By late 2025, three of Proman's five methanol plants were shut down due to gas shortages. Additionally, Proman announced a temporary suspension of its melamine plant in January 2026.
General Impact: Former energy officials indicated that close to 9 of the 20 major downstream petrochemical companies at Point Lisas have either been temporarily mothballed, shuttered, or closed permanently due to gas curtailment. These closures stem from a drop in natural gas production from 4.3 Bcf/d in 2010 to approximately 2.5 Bcf/d in 2025
Dragon at its highest production will produce 250 mcft per day. ( million cubic ft per day)
As of April 2026, the natural gas shortfall in Trinidad and Tobago is estimated to be approximately 1.5 to 1.7 billion standard cubic feet per day (Bcf/d)
T&T need approx 2 billion cubic feet per day to keep the plants in operation....Dragon will provide 250 million cubic feet per day...a pittance.
I await the explanation.😡
