The Jamaican quartet of Ackeem Blake, Tina Clayton, Kadrian Goldson and Tia Clayton stormed to a mixed 4x100m world record* in the very first event of the Debswana World Athletics Relays Gaborone 26 on Saturday (2).

The competition started in sensational style as Jamaica’s 39.99 in the third of the three mixed 4x100m heats beat the world record of 40.07 set by Canada in heat one. That had improved on the world best of 40.30 achieved by Canada when the mixed 4x100m made its global debut at last year’s World Relays in Guangzhou.

Using the new running order of man, woman, man, woman, Blake handed the baton to Tina Clayton, who then passed it on to Goldson before Tia Clayton ran away unchallenged to break 40 seconds in this event for the first time.

The splits must be interesting, Goldson's leg seemed pretty fast; ha big surprise for me dat. By the way there was a 42.sintung 400m leg in the the tussle between The Saffies and Botswana

@Brerzerk

That mixed team put on a show! Goldson is usually the source of angst in the mens relay setup, but he was absolutely flying on that third leg. Big up to the twins.

on the women’s side, me glad bag buss when me see Elaine just turn on the jets and collar the Canadian anchor. Lavanya Williams has the foot speed but she is too nervous.

Elaine is back but seems she picked up sup'n hence the slow-down; hope it is just a niggle. Young Ms. Williams L is young so nerves can be overcome. Hope she doesn't go the way of Kemba. Sad that Bri-Bri is now our slowest leg but her big event experience is invaluable. Must be there for at least the rounds. If dem twins capable and willing to double up we could challenge Murca in both mixed n women's and that's even with Shacaeri, Melissa and Gabby.
