@trev114

Sadly, he will never receive the praise he deserves in many Caribbean countries.

The criticism aimed at him has been too much to list. Unbothered, he still did what he believed was best for his family. It took a team from far away to truly have faith in him, supporting him through difficult moments, and standing by him even as he reshaped his game a few times.

Over the years, he became loyal to that franchise, as his first option, and then to his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T). With a remarkable career spanning 15 years, he remained in demand across leagues around the world.

With his calm demeanor, he carried it out the only way he knew, on the field.

Keep playing, Philip. Youโ€™ve only grown stronger with age: a player with 200 wickets in the IPL.

Sixxxxxxx! And Sixxx!

4.5 6
Jacks to Pooran, SIX runs
almost a carbon copy of the last ball. The ball sails over fine leg.
Man out at deep square leg now.
4.4 6
Jacks to Pooran, SIX runs
slog swept over long leg. Pooran is back! Jacks goes on a fullish length on leg, and Pooran swings hard for another six

Gwaan Pooran!

Ok, let's be impartial for a second.

In order for other Caribbean Countries to "praise" him or any player... that would have to come from excellent performances for West Indies cricket, first, no?

A Guyanese player playing for Guyana & other T20 leagues doing v/well... shouldn't look for praises from Antigua, St. Lucia, TnT, B'dos, etc......

See where I'm coming from???

@Drapsey

first score more than 22 in over 10 innings.....

good time for him to come good for his last placed team.....but is it a little too late?

So kanhai, Sobers, VIV, Lara etc shouldn't look for praises from other islands...

You should stick to a sport you are familiar with...instead of BS...

 Sunil Narine played for Cricket West Indies (CWI) teams, representing the West Indies in 122 international matches across all three formats (Tests, ODIs, T20Is) between 2011 and 2019. A key member of the 2012 ICC T20 World Cup-winning squad, he also played regionally for Trinidad & Tobago. He announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2023

International Debut: Made his ODI debut for the West Indies in December 2011 against India.

Formats: Played 6 Tests, 65 ODIs, and 51 T20Is.

Achievements: Was part of the West Indies team that won the 2012 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Final Match: His last international game was a T20I against India in 2019.

Sunil Narine was instrumental in West Indies' 2012 ICC World T20 victory, delivering a match-winning spell in the final against Sri Lanka. He took 3 wickets for just 9 runs in 3.4 overs, helping defend a low total of 137 and bowling out the hosts for 101.

2012 T20 World Cup Performance

  • Final Impact: Dismantled Sri Lanka's middle and lower order, taking the final wicket of Lasith Malinga to secure the title.
  • Tournament Stats: Finished with 9 wickets in 7 matches.
  • Economy: Maintained a remarkable economy rate of 5.63 throughout the tournament, proving difficult for batsmen to read

@sgtdjones

Firstly kudos to Narine he is by far the GOAT of T20 cricket!!!

Everybody and their mother would kill for Narine to play any format for WI!!!

The issue with Narine is that everyone knows what the โ€œPโ€ in SP Narine is for!!!

@WIfan26

I know yuh can't be serious about Narine being the "GOAT"๐Ÿ˜ƒ...but on the off chance that you are reach fuh yuh meds!!๐Ÿ˜‚

@sgtdjones

Sunil's final match for WI was in 2019.... this is 2026 (7 yrs later) and he's still playing at a high level...

Now, when these guys retired from Windies setup:

So kanhai, Sobers, VIV, Lara etc shouldn't look for praises from other islands...

how long did they play at a regional or FC level?

Mon, May 4, '26 at 4:45 PM

@CCW

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Other than Chris Gayle who else can you really put in front of him in terms of longevity and skill set man still pelting down people today and maintains an excellent economy rate!!!

@FunnyMan

See how I labeled you above...

You are now how many times did a player play at the FC level.?

This Trini would be amongst your greatest that you are clueless about.

Caribbean Cricket Purists: Readers with a deep interest in the "Golden Era" of regional cricket (the 1960s and 70s) who appreciate technical mastery over modern power-hitting.

Richard De Souza (1948โ€“2007) was a prominent right-handed batsman who represented Trinidad and Tobago in 34 first-class matches between 1964 and 1973. Despite a career average of 43.02, he is frequently cited as one of the most successful Caribbean players to never receive a West Indies international cap.

During his ten-year domestic career, De Souza accumulated 1,936 runs, including three centuries and 15 half-centuries. He played a pivotal role in Trinidad and Tobagoโ€™s consecutive Shell Shield titles in 1970 and 1971 under the captaincy of Joey Carew.

His leadership qualities were recognized early, leading to his appointment as captain of the West Indies Presidentโ€™s XI for a match against the touring England team.

Career Performance vs. England

  • Average vs. MCC: 50.50
  • Matches Played: 2
  • Key Dismissal: He was famously dismissed by Pat Pocock in the second match after anchoring the innings with his 69

In addition to his batting, De Souza was an accomplished dual-sport athlete in his youth, having played football at St Mary's College, a high level before focusing on cricket. His contribution to the sport continued long after his retirement from active play at the age of 25.

He served as the treasurer of the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) from 1981 to 2005 and held a directorship on the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).
