no more free youtube as you know it

it seems youtube is pushing to get more people to subscribe to their paid premium add free version instead of the free one .they have suddenly made the free version full of ads

so all you people who love to watch cricket or any other thing on youtube either pay for the add free version or put up with intrusive annoying long ads every few minutes.they also found away around ad blockers

@velo

YouTube ceased to be an open free platform the moment it was bought by Google way back in October 2006.

It's been a slow but steady decline since then and they can get away with it because there are no real competitors in that space.

@velo

Well it's premium so why shouldn't you be payng for it if you don't want ads?

@Kay

I think what he is saying is that the ads have become far too intrusive where in many instances the ads are longer than the video being watched or that there are so many ads that it's not even worth the time to watch the video.

The real answer to all of this is competition. But to-date, there are no real viable competitors to YouTube. It's basically a monopoly.

By the way I remember the days before the Google takeover when there were no algorithms and copyright strikes and one could get lost down the rabbit hole of watching a whole bunch of random obscure videos for hours - for free.

@SnoopDog

If the people fail to watch the vids because too many ads, then adjustments will be made.

most people pay

I holding out on upgrading Paramount Plus but it getting damn irritating the amount and frequency of ads.

@Halliwell

Freeco, freeco

That's like the days of buying a roll of coax-cable and throwing it by your neighbour to get free cable TV

@Halliwell

I don't pay a damn thing.

I don't set up accounts and log in either. If they want my personal info and data they have to pay me for it.

That's why I'm not on any social media site. All they do is farm your personal data and sell it back to you in the form of monthly subscriptions and intrusive ads. Modern day feudalism.
