First time seeing this footage. Very clear!

Couldn’t quite remember Larry Gomes had made the team that early!

For a moment there, I thought you were posting a video of the Babulal. While Viv Richards and later Sachin earned the moniker, it actually started in the 60s after Kanhai’s explosive batting.

@CricSham

Didn’t know Kanhai was referred to as such! His prime however would have been 60yrs ago!😀

You are right that would be 60 years ago - time just seems to fly! It was in the 60's after the publication of kanhai's "autobiography" - Blasting For Runs" - that the moniker was born. There is no greater joy than WI batsmen on the rampage. I was fortunate to see a few such innings through the years - the one that stands out is the Kanhai/Sobers assault on England at Bourda. The following day, word on the street was that it was hang over licks - apparently both of them were out drinking until 4 am. The talk was that when the water cart came out, the 12th man had sometin' somtin' especially for them. Is it true?

Well many years later, 1976/77 I was working at the Ministry of Finance and Guyana was playing host to the Commonwealth Finance Ministers' conference. We were meeting the guests at Timehri and taking them to Pegasus. I had the pleasure of riding with with Sir Gary to GT - he was going to Tower. Man, I was like a kid in a candy store. And of course I asked Sir Gary if there was any truth to the story. He smiled and denied it, but to this day I swear I saw a twinkle in his eyes. Oh, it was true alright!!! Bro, those were the days.
