Which is the weakest team in regional cricket?

Regardless of format.

My vote goes to Windwards by far

if there’s consensus on this, what can be done to improve the standard of cricket in that territory.

Should the “Combined Islands” be revisited with a goal to producing stronger, and more competitive overall WI team at all levels?

CWI has a significant financial issue. Travel between the territories is increasingly expensive and challenging. CWI has already centralized cricket by having Antigua as an official “hub”

Perhaps the time has come to consolidate further….beginning with the Leeward and Windward islands.

Basically, to progress…..should WI cricket revisit it’s past?

@imusic

But Windwards has some decent players. They have 3 former WI test batsmen in Athanaze, Hodge and Ambris. A decent fast bowler in Tyson and a decent offie in Dember. They also have Auguste who is favoured. With 6 players who are supposed to be of at least regional standard, they should be doing better. The problem therefore must be the coaching. They need someone to light the fire under them to make them perform better or at least more consistently at the standard one would reasonably expect of them.

Which is the weakest team in regional cricket?

VOR soon come and say it's because both Windwards and Leewards (at different times of course) continue to 'hire' Oshane Thomas.

@imusic

@Drapsey

Why start this post, would it be a fair assessment to say that a team that wins its first cup in 30 years maybe qualify for the title.

After 20 years TNT wins their first 4 day crown on the back of their two international pacers one who is world class. They may have done well in white ball cricket but in 4 day not so good. All of a sudden one has become an expert at which regional structure is weakest.

Windwards is made up of four islands : Dominica, St.Vincent and the Grenadines, St.Lucia and Grenada so one challenge is ensuring that all four boards are on the same page with coaching , hosting tournaments, financing. To travel between these islands is another cost and challenge and Players not getting selected due to insularity another. A microcosm of West Indies cricket. Leewards have the same issues so combining them will not solve those issues only compound and exaggerate them. We do not want to stifle talent.

Windwards and Leewards both lost to eventual finalists Guyana and TNT so give that some thought .

What I would like to see is more cooperation between the two boards in terms of having one tournament , arranging tours , training , sharing financial resources.

approaching our cricket with a question such as this is scandalous, it will give further life to the insular monster. Nothing good will come from it.

however on the opposite side of the coin I do believe it is time to consider breaking up both the leeward and windwards

I believe in the long run this will strengthen caribbean cricket and definitely widen the pool.

Trinidad & Tobago obliterated the Leeward Islands by an innings and 271 runs, so trying to group them together as equals is pure fiction.

"Windwards and Leewards struggled against regional standard bowling. When Guyana faced Jayden Seales and Terrance Hinds, they folded for 139 in 39 overs. T&T didn't just win the tournament; we raised the entire standard of regional red-ball cricket."😎

@hawk

Let us be realistic here. We do not want to water down the tournament by breaking up the islands. They are not ready for this now.

Antigua and Barbuda is probably the only one close to being ready as they have an organised cricket structure from the grassroots up which needs to be replicated in all islands so 5- 10 years from now we can talk about going it alone.

@sgtdjones

Would have been a different game/series if we had the services of Alzarri.

"Saying 'what if we had our star player' completely rewrites reality. A cricket match is played by the 11 guys who actually step onto the field. If a team relies so heavily on one person that they completely fall apart without them, then they didn't deserve to win in the first place."

 If they are Leeward Islands Hurricanes fans complaining about missing a star like Alzarri Joseph, their opponents were likely missing international players too.

I said time to consider not do it tomorrow, any sane thinking individual would know it would have to be a progressive endeavour. Some structure and/or system must be in place as these islands do produce players, over time those structures can be developed

Ha……look what happens when Trinis encounter Alzarri

I prefer to have every Island be like is was during the Stanford tournament.

It something I being saying to Point.

Sir Frank is shaking his head, because no one from the territories can see, that only a few cricketers are being expose from Windwards and leewards.

How are teams being selected, without a competition?

This year is the 3rd year of Barbados A playing Dominica, it give fans the opportunity to see the player and wonder why some are not in the Windward squad.
