Why is Ackeem Auguste in the WI ODI squad?

He has played 4 ODI’s averaging 14

He’s played 28 List A matches averaging 23.72

His alleged claim to fame is in T20 cricket. Let’s say his skills……at his age and inexperience are transferable to other formats.

He didn’t make the T20 World Cup team due to injury.

He played in the recent 4 day regional tournament and failed spectacularly.

So on what basis is he selected for a WI ODI preparation camp, far less for the final squad of 15?

He was picked on potential, he made two nineties in the f/c tournament that just ended,

@imusic

Because he’s St. Lucian duhhh 🙃

Seriously who would you prefer?

The best option WI have is Evin Lewis but we don’t know if he’s off the radar, retired or still building his house 🙄

Akeem is at least young and a modern white ball player in that he can go at a decent strike rate so I actually don’t see an issue with him!!!

@imusic

He scored two 90’s against a good Guyana bowling lineup when others struggled. If that is failing spectacularly, I am sure other batsmen would have liked to have had those scores.

@voiceofreason

Why is he in the ODI squad?

Based on what?

thanks for being bold enough to raise this. Auguste was not even on the radar when he was at the Academy. He had one good T20 score and all of a sudden he is the new torchbearer for WI. Same mistake as was made with Mykle Louis, who at least had a good season, with Teddy from Grenada who had one century in the Super50 and was sent to Australia with the ODI team. People have already forgotten how Jordan Johnson and Jewel Andrew were supposed to be the shining lights. That is why I said earlier today that if Auguste does have some talent he would have been better going to Sri Lanka and developing it than embarrassing the selectors here at home on the "Outside"

@PalsofMine

Who would you pick instead???

Were you present during the camp???

How long ago was Super50 and with it being heavily rain affected is the data even usable???

The cupboard is so bare in WI cricket it’s not as simple as picking a player on stats it’s more of an eye test or team composition and further more at least give the youngster a chance before you cuss nah man 🙄

FYI for you “We outside” is a hip hop term popularized by social media which is why they used it in the promo to bring some sort of relevance to the youths in WI cricket!!!

@PalsofMine

The finances can't be that bad that they couldn't have arranged a couple of practice matches between the senior side and the academy in preparation.

@WIfan26

Thanks for explaining what Wi Outside means. I was not aware as I am too old to follow hiphop trends.

I was not at the camp. I am basing my opinion on Auguste's performances to date. From these I have drawn my own conclusion, to which I am entitled, that he is not yet ready for WI selection and that the modicum of talent that he has shown is probably better developed on an emerging player tour than in full blown international cricket. I concede that I am not a soothsayer and I may well be proven wrong, but I doubt it. I dont particularly care if he is picked in the team or not although I have my own proposals for the starting XI. I will be Rallying starting at 930 am JA time tomorrow.

@PalsofMine

Yea fair point and I do agree that he’s not ready but WI aren’t really blessed with many options.

Without Evin Lewis our opening partnership is effed I have no faith in Campbell/August!!!

Jangoo/Auguste might be slightly better personally I would go Hetmyer/August as Hope & Carty can be pokers in the middle so a fast start is necessary!!!

Anyways looking forward to rallying tomorrow as well especially after 3 months of bowling machine cricket 🫠

They say that Auguste is a hard worker on his game, so that might be what influenced the Selector, I hope he does well, the WI needs new batters to start coming through.

@Imusic

If you can't dicepher you will find out, in due course.

I offer you a low hanging fruit, for the fun of it - retribution!!!

Now eat your heart out

It kinda obvious.

Lets wish the team best of luck and hope they win 3-0 to improve our WC qualification chances.
