TTCB distances itself from U-17 team for overseas tournament
The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) has distanced itself from an alleged Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 team set to participate in the Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Tournament, warning that it has neither sanctioned nor approved the venture and is not connected to any related fundraising or travel arrangements. In an official public notice, the TTCB said it became aware of a June 1 notice titled “TT Under-17 Team” which invited players to participate in the tournament and requested financial contributions from players and their parents or guardians. The Board stated that it had “not organised, selected, sanctioned, approved, endorsed or authorised” any Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 national team to take part in the event. The TTCB further stressed that it is not affiliated with, connected to or associated in any way with the team, the tournament arrangements, player selection process, fundraising activities, financial contributions, travel plans or any other matters outlined in the notice.
According to the Board, it is particularly concerned that the use of the description “Under-17 Team”, together with references to the TTCB National Under-17 Tournament, could create the false impression that the team is an official national representative side operating under the authority or auspices of the TTCB.The Board made it clear that no such authorization, sanction or approval has been granted. As a result, parents, guardians, players, sponsors and members of the public have been advised that any commitments, payments, contributions or arrangements made in relation to participation in the tournament are not being undertaken on behalf of, or under the authority of, the TTCB.
The governing body also used the opportunity to remind the public that players selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago on official TTCB national teams are not required to pay fees as a condition of representing the country in national youth cricket programmes. The TTCB said the notice was issued to avoid confusion, protect the integrity of Trinidad and Tobago’s national cricket programmes and ensure that the public is not misled into believing that the organization has approved or is involved in the activities described in the June 1 notice. The Board added that it reserves all legal rights and remedies regarding any unauthorised use of its reputation, name, goodwill, competitions, logos, intellectual property or any representation that may lead the public to believe an activity, team, event or programme has been sanctioned by the TTCB when no such approval has been granted.
