PM silent on probe into alleged assassination plot

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has refused to comment on an alleged plot involving three prominent business persons to murder her and other members of her government. Asked by Guardian Media to comment directly on the continued detention of Blue Waters owner Dominic Hadeed, his wife Genevieve and her maternal aunt Star Sabga, as well as reports that she was directly targeted, the Prime Minister declined to do so.

However, investigators close to the probe have placed the Prime Minister at the center of the ongoing investigation surrounding an alleged plot to murder Government officials and destabilize the country. On Saturday, Preventive Detention Orders were signed and issued by Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander under the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2026.

The two Hadeeds were arrested by police at their Bayshore, Westmoorings home on Wednesday while Sabga was detained on Thursday.Dominic is currently being detained at the Remand Prison, Golden Grove, while his wife and Sabga are being held at the Women’s Prison, Golden Grove. The arrests come nearly two weeks days after the Prime Minister endorsed a warning by Attorney General John Jeremie that no segment of society, including the so-called “one per cent” business elites, was beyond the reach of the law.

Hadeeds detained in alleged conspiracy to murder probe

...Businessman, wife held under PDOs at prison facilities; relative also under detention

Businessman Dominic Hadeed, 52 and his wife, Genevieve Hadeed, 42, have been detained as part of an investigation into an alleged conspiracy to murder, according to search warrants issued in their names and signed by High Court Master Valene Guerra-Abraham on June 24. However, the documents do not disclose the identity of any intended victim or victims.

Hours after details of the investigation emerged, Dominic Hadeed, Genevieve Hadeed and her aunt, Star Sabga, were placed under Preventative Detention Orders (PDOs) and taken into custody at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre and the Women’s Prison, respectively. It was not immediately clear for what alleged offence Sabga, 69, was held. The warrants, obtained by Cpl Eldon Calliste of the Special Branch, state that the indictable offence is contrary to Section 5(a) of the Offences Against the Person Act, Chapter 11:08.

The information was released yesterday when High Court judge Frank Seepersad declined to immediately grant an urgent habeas corpus application filed on behalf of Hadeed and his wife, Genevieve, and instead ordered the Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, to explain the legal basis on which the couple continues to be detained. Justice Seepersad denied the ex parte application filed by Senior Counsel Faris Al-Rawi but directed that the application, supporting affidavit, and certificate of urgency be served on the Commissioner of Police by 4 pm yesterday. The matter has been fixed for a virtual hearing at 9 am tomorrow. Guardian Media understands Commissioner Guevarro was served with the court documents yesterday and acknowledged receipt. Efforts to obtain a response from him proved unsuccessful.

I would be amazed if anything comes out of that. The so-called 1% is as reviled by the UNC and their cohorts as that of the people of Lavantille and surrounding areas. The common thread? Both groups are not controlled by the UNC, and happen to support the PNM. If they can't control you, they destroy you, by any means necessary.

They always like pushing the notion that Eric Williams and PNM did nothing for their people, forgetting that all major developments in the country were the work of the PNM. The PNM has instituted policies that benefitted Trinidad and Tobago as a whole, and not one group. Maybe the culture of the present group is so racist and one sided that they see time in office as an opportunity to serve only the people that look like them. And, their supporters also see it as their time. They do not understand that many of the people they so despise are not looking for handouts from politicians, and that is why, their continued dwelling on this false notion that PNM does nothing for their people, does not win any favours for UNC. And, while they shout this vile claim with such venom, at her swearing in ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized that "outside of the capital city, there are a "forgotten people" and a "country with real people, with real feelings and ambitions". In other words, according to her, the PNM government was only concentrating development in the areas where their supporters lived. The contradiction is alarming. Can't have it both ways.

@Besar

Since independence what has the PNM done for Sea lots , Beetham , Laventille , Morvant , La Brea et al.

They are supports of Eric Williams since the 1960's .

He even referred to them "If I put a frog to run in such areas , they would vote for it."

If he did so much for T&T why did the black power march started...then he crushed them with his police after the Indians would not join.

Look at all the opportunities he gave the 1% , then what did he give his own ilk ....bad roads , no infrastructure , high unemployment , 10 day jobs to the party faithful. etc. etc...

John O'Halloran

The Nickname "Mr. 10%": He earned this moniker because it was widely understood that he skimmed a minimum 10% kickback from nearly every major state project, corporate deal, and construction contract during Trinidad's 1970s oil boom.

As the "bagman," O'Halloran didn't just keep the money for himself; substantial portions of these cash kickbacks were used to fund the PNM’s political campaigns and maintain the party's tight grip on power under Eric Williams.

The public consensus became that Williams could not possibly have been blind to the actions of "Mr. 10%". Because the road to the Prime Minister ran directly through O'Halloran, historians and citizens alike concluded that Williams willfully ignored the graft to maintain his political grip.

Williams  the leader who allowed a culture of political "bagmen" to take root.

See what he did , using taxpayers money. Ever wondered why he committed suicide?

Intelligence report alleges bribes for favorable rulings

THE arrest of a sitting magistrate is said to be imminent as law enforcement intensifies its crackdown on white-collar crime in Trinidad and Tobago. The impending high-profile arrest follows the issuance of Preventive Detention Orders (PDOs) against businessman Dominic Hadeed, 52, his wife, Genevieve (also called Genevierve), 42, and relative Star Sabga, 69, over allegations of a conspiracy to assassinate senior Government officials. The Express was last week reliably informed by senior national security officials that intelligence gathered locally and internationally points to a top-ranking member of the judiciary, with investigators allegedly uncovering a paper trail of money obtained through bribes in exchange for favorable court rulings.

The Express was informed that, based on an intelligence report dated June 2026, the magistrate has been deemed to be “compromised” and “co-opted” by foreign nationals residing in Trinidad and Tobago and is alleged to have facilitated money laundering. The intelligence report cites at least two specific cases in which the magistrate allegedly received bribes amounting to tens of thousands of United States (US) dollars in exchange for favorable rulings. According to the intelligence obtained, a cash bribe of a specified amount in US currency was allegedly paid to the magistrate, who subsequently ruled that the firearms be returned to the accused. The accused was placed on a cash bond and released.

National security officials told the Express that the magistrate maintains bank accounts in the United States and possibly Panama.Preliminary investigations into those accounts have reportedly found that it was “quite clear” the magistrate was “living beyond their means” and possessed substantial unexplained wealth when compared with his lawful income. The intelligence report details cash transactions conducted in the United States and deposits made into the accounts.

Politicians, contractors under probe too

@sodden

Sodden;  a spectacle of pure, unadulterated delusion!

Look upon the unlearned counsel who stands before you today. A man of the law. A man of words. But above all, a man who is the undisputed, unassailable, mathematical common denominator of his own catastrophic ruin!

He stands at this site pretending to be a giant, yet his pockets are inside out.

Count them, five! Five separate ex-wives have marched him into the courts of justice and stripped away his coin, his dignity, and his pride. Five times the gavel fell, and five times he was left holding the bill for his own failure.

And did he learn? Did he humble himself? No!

He marched across the Caribbean Sea to challenge the indomitable Prime Minister Mia Motley of Barbados. And what happened? A historic, back-to-back, thirty to zero slaughter! Sixty seats to absolute zero! She did not just defeat him; she erased his entire political existence from the map!

Yet, behold the tragic comedy of a lawyer who loves his own misery. With the ink still wet on his five divorce decrees, and the dust of Barbados still choking his lungs, he turns his eyes to Trinidad and Tobago.

He declares war on Kamla Persad-Bissessar!

Even the lowliest, most primitive creature crawling through the mud knows when it is hopelessly, violently outmatched. It flees! It hides! It surrenders! But not this man. He looks at an undefeated line-up of formidable women and says, "Give me more."

He is a serial enthusiast for his own destruction. Kamla will not just defeat him; she will finish what the five ex-wives and Mia started. Drop the microphone, counselor! Throw down your briefcases!

Fall to your knees and surrender, because the math is settled, the verdict is in, and you are the problem!

. intelligence claims comments on Govt officials put them under police radar

The detention order for Dominic Hadeed read: “The detainee, Dominic Hadeed, had been credibly identified through intelligence received as being involved in an ongoing conspiracy to assassinate senior members of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and/or serving Members of Parliament. The intelligence indicates that, following statements made in Parliament during the debate on the extension of the present State of Emergency, the detainee expressed violent intentions by stating words to the effect that persons would be shot in their head. Intelligence further indicates that these statements were made in furtherance of a developing plan to target members of the Government. The detainee is a person of substantial financial means and influence with the resources, access and capability to facilitate serious organized criminal activity. Intelligence further indicates that his continued liberty presents a real and immediate risk of facilitating the execution of plans intended to destabilize the Government of Trinidad and Tobago through violence.”

The PDO was issued pursuant to Regulation 14 of the Emergency Powers Regulations 2026, which proclaimed it was, “Necessary to disrupt these plans and prevent him from acting in a manner prejudicial to public safety.” The PDO issued in the name of Genevieve Hadeed contained similar allegations and claimed it was “necessary to provide for her preventive detention with a view to preventing her from acting in a manner prejudicial to public safety.” The PDO continued, “The detainee, Genevieve Hadeed, also called Genevierve Hadeed, has been credibly identified as participating in an ongoing conspiracy directed at the assassination of members of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.

“Intelligence indicates that the detainee made statements to the effect that the death of the Prime Minister, members of Government and members of Parliament were required following public statements made during the parliamentary debate on the extension of the State of Emergency. The intelligence further demonstrates that the detainee is associated with other persons involved in the conspiracy and that her continued liberty creates a substantial risk that plans to carry out acts of violence against members of the Government may proceed.” It added, “These threats, viewed in the context of the ongoing State of Emergency and the surrounding intelligence, constitute a direct threat to public safety and national security. A Preventive Detention Order pursuant to Regulation 14 of the Emergency Powers Regulations 2026 is necessary to disrupt these plans and prevent her from acting in a manner prejudicial to public safety.”
