Hope cleared to play in 2nd Test

Already 1-0 up I their two-Test series against Sri Lanka, the West Indies got more good news yesterday, when influential batter Shai Hope was cleared to return to the squad after injury.

Hope missed the first Test which West Indies won by an innings and 217 runs in Antigua with a shoulder injury sustained in training just before the match. However yesterday, Cricket West Indies said Hope had recovered from the left shoulder strain and is now available for selection.

CWI said Hope participated in the team’s final training session this afternoon ahead of the second Test, which gets underway tomorrow at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

...for who?

all of them average in the 20s apart from the newcomer, Jangoo, and King so it is just a lottery. Eenie meenie minie mo

@sgtdjones

Josh sits. Hope for Josh. Jangoo gets the gloves.

@voiceofreason

I can recall you mentioning dis before an i thought you was joking but evidently not.....if Jangoo is given the gloves even by Sammy's standards it will be one of his most idiotic decisions that you would sanction.....i can just visualise it....Jangoo given the gloves doesn't make a valid contribution with the bat an ppl including you saying gosh we should have leave him alone to concentrate on his batting after that momentous inns instead of additionally burdening him with keeping.....yuh dig?????

@PalsofMine

King is avg 27 after 7matches, Hope is our best bat for the last 5 matches with 421 runs, 2 tons with an avg.42.21

I would replace Hodge with Hope allowing Josh to keep.

The most fair way for Hope to be included is to give the Wicket/keeping job to either Hope or Jangoo, neither could be worse than DaSilva. They could extend Hope rest and play the same team from the first Test.

@dayne

Hope is the best batsman for the last 5 matches, why burden him with the gloves.

Thu, Jul 2, '26 at 12:56 PM

@tc1

This definitely would be a foolish move. Da Silva is worthy of the proverbial due process. And he hasn't done anything to shame himself. Not after one game on his return

@InHindsight

You misread my post, I did not say to drop Josh, Hodge is the likely candidate to drop.

Thu, Jul 2, '26 at 4:17 PM

i would bring in hope for Josh and call it a day

Thu, Jul 2, '26 at 4:41 PM

@tc1

I understand that .But I like Hodge and am partial to him..Hasn't he got 2 tons in a short career. ? Drop someone else.😁

@chantilly

Consider these two:

1) Team dynamics and

2) Morale

@hubert

The reasonable thing is to leave the XI unchanged
