But beyond the tape, there is real life, and there are real laws and constitutional restraints on what you can and can't do. If you do not educate yourself to those limitations, then you would fall victim to ole talk and mamaguy. Poor fella; on Beyond The Tape, he had all the answers for all policing and crime issues. You could have seen from his menacing look the disdain he had for the administration in office at the time, believing that they were not doing enough to control crimes in the country. He did not pay attention to, or most likely, unaware of the legal restraints that hindered them. He did not pay attention to the numerous efforts they had made to get the opposition to support tougher legislations. The constitution required 2/3, and in some cases up to 75% support in the parliament for such changes to occur. The government at the time had a slim majority of 21 - 19, and were unable to make the changes without opposition support. The opposition refused to support on every occasion. Once, when the opposition called for joint consultation on crime, the PM at the time accepted, and picked his team. The opposition refused to name a team, the leader claiming that if the PM is not there, no meeting.

In the meantime, the opposition at the time, with their leader at the helm were talking badjohn language. Stand your ground legislation; load up your matic, own your own gun etc. The hype in the language promised all the solutions to the country's crimes. This seemed to suit the likings of the Beyond The Tape man who quickly joined forces with the opposition to fight the elections. They won, and they put him as head of the National Security. And, lo and behold, reality struck. After blowing air in plastic bags, and pumping his mighty chest after media reporters, in a show of misguided bravado, light came. They were hindered by the same constitutional protections that faced the previous administration, and all the badjhon talk could not produce anything.

Beyond the Tape, there were no viable plans, beyond the bad john speech, all of which would have violated the constitution. So, they resorted to a full year of States of Emergency, which they use to terrorize their opponents. A new creation under the State of Emergency called PDO's or Preventative Detention Orders, where they arrest without evidence to make charges, but designed to keep their enemies in jail for the entire period of the SOE. From historical records of that same administration, it all ends up in nothing against those whom they detained, and results in monumental sums paid in lawsuits from the victims. The sums for those blunders often are paid for by the next administration. They don't care, and don't seem to learn. So, all the kakapoule that is posted here everyday as if the place is a paradise. No, that is not true. T&T is as messy as Trump's USA.
