Understanding of batting especially given the state of the game.

A new moving ball and batting as if it's an ODI, driving through the line

@InHindsight

Well, it works in white ball cricket

He is an example of Sammy's failed white ball to red ball player conversion attempt

Averaging 27 with a HS of 75

hmmm...not exactly great is it..?

And his average is one of the better ones in the West Indian top order 😁

@4REALQUICKS

Go figure. Sad state of affairs. To me, the Yaadies have a concentration and game awareness weakness.

@pariaman

You had yo make it about Sammy.

Who are the alternatives?

By and large though in recent past, only occasionally, Campbell shows that he can build an innings.

Please don't crucify me for saying so

it was disappointing that King could not have survived the afternoon. After all, it was classic test match strategy by Lanka so our guys should have been prepared for it. But then he is not very experienced and so can possibly be excused. An average of 27 is on the high side for the WI right now but hopefully that will not be for too long. He must realise that the wunderkind Auguste is probably breathing down his neck

@Baje

King has been failing in every aspect of the game, for least 5 yrs.

Nepotism, by the CEO, is forcing, a has been, on the team.

Sat, Jul 4, '26 at 7:15 PM

@PalsofMine

King has been a total failure, in every format. a years.

Time to kick the passenger, off the bus.

Sat, Jul 4, '26 at 7:16 PM

@Edrich

Nepotisim is forcing a never was to be head coach and chief selector in all formats

i promise you the never was will be the chairman too

Sat, Jul 4, '26 at 7:23 PM

@Edrich

a little harsh I think. He does have 3 half centuries in his short career and also is opening which may not be his natural position in red ball cricket. He still has a chance to get his average up into the 30s before he stagnates

Were Hope and Chase not part of that too?

Sun, Jul 5, '26 at 6:20 AM

@voiceofreason

Hope has been the only one who has stepped up. Chase, before the last test match, has been poor. Very poor truth be told. His bowling, captaincy and especially batting have all been well shy of what is required at the test level. I like Roston but he should never have been made captain and even worse, retained after such a terrible start. The first test against Sri Lanka saw him post a wonderful score but I feel all that will do is paper over the cracks for the next couple of series...or longer, depending upon results.

The major issue is a severe lack of depth, nobody is ready to make the step up, so you are left with a bunch of relatively talented batsmen whose game lacks something between the ears to succeed at the test level, all averaging in the 20s. It is a sad state of affairs.

King is just not able to adjust his game between formats so probably has to play his natural game an hope for the best .....not everybody can transition succesfully between formats an better than King somebody like Hetty im not sure he could either......King should not be persevered in tests.
