old school type test batsman with his patience an application shown ..this was a very impressive knock albeit on a great batting track....nevertheless yuh still gotta have the ability to cash in..... i see his ave is now mid 30's (Hooper an Samuels territory) so is on an upward curve......for me he possesses the best technique in the team look how he handled the short- pitched bowling which was superbly analysed by Mali Richards as opposed to others who looked distinctly uncomfortable....so hopefully onwards an upwards fuh him an later down who knows could become our test cappo.

What I am impressed with is his appetite to go on and make a big score. He already has three centuries from his first 16 test matches, including his unbeaten double hundred and this week's knock of 180. A very useful 4th/5th seamer option too and seems a man of good character.

A genuine international class all-rounder batting at six is a really strong building block.

Greaves is a classic type batter, it is good for the team that he bats on after making centuries, it was the first time he was dismissed after he passed fifty in the just completed match.

I always connect Greaves and Da Silva because they were both so impressive in that Academy team some years ago....but both have been hampered by being pitched as allrounders when batting was their real strength. Greaves is a useful change bowler who can swing the ball in the right conditions but his bowling should not be valued any higher than we valued say Gayle's offspin. Da Silva's keeping should be rated somewhere around the quality of Wayne Hinds glovework..... for emergency fill in only.

Both could bat higher up the order. But DaSilva in particular should batting for TnT, and ultimaately WI, at 3 - and abandon the gloves. He needs to adjust now before the door is closed on him

Prior to the Sri Lanka Tests, what was Greaves' average? I do not know, however, I am asking as your pronouncement does beg the question.

I am looking forward to seeing him against better teams and less batting friendly conditions.

It was mid-high 20s prior to the recent series. None of the current batsmen were averaging 30 going into the series against Sri Lanka.

Greaves had the highest average in the team for players who played over 10 Tests, 29.6. his average is higher now. After Hope, he has been the most consistent batter across all formats

I am always happy when a player shows that he can grab opportunities to perform when conditions suit him. My only reservation about Greaves is that when you look at his batting, he does not consistently score even in the 30s and 40s as you would expect from a top 6 batsman. He swings wildly between centuries and very poor scores. If he could only build his consistency some more as he is a decent slipper among the bad lot we have as well as a useful change bowler.

Fair enough but let's not forget his double ton in NZ when he an Shai saved that test.....good batting conditions yes but yuh still have to be good enough capitalise an what's impressive with him is that he makes what they call "daddy" hundreds that's the mark of a man that has great concentration an enjoys batting fuh long periods.

Beg to differ.......his two big hundreds came in most placid wickets.....both matches....draw....his bowling nothing but 5th seamer...he is poor version of Mayers....Mayers batting average @33...bowling @18...... remember..Mayers won three to four test single handedly...with both bat and ball....

Greaves has done well in patches....long way to go before he can be considered an all rounder.... should concentrate on batting....

Placid wickets or not making big 100's is not a given yuh still have to be good enough to capitalise ...in this team only Shai an Justin more often than not yuh would have confidence in them cashing in pon a good track cos they have the required application to do so.....not even thinking about his bowling useful as it may be .....how many current batsmen around the world does cash in on "bowler friendly" tracks??
