He is a left arm unorthodox spin bowler. How ofetn do batsmen come across those gems?

Vitel's development history tells me he has put in the hard yards and deserves a look in. There is no guarrantee that he will succeed but the investment is worthwhile.

While Ackeem has put in the hard work, it is much easier to spot the weakneses in a batsman.

A good "chinaman" bowler in our camp will help our batsmen develop against spin.

And lastly, being in the squad does not mean that he will play...ask Brian Lara.

For me unless he's developed a lot more control and yes skill in flight, loop etc. I say don't play him yet! Tremendous potential but if he is rushed in and gets clobbered confidence could be destroyed.

So that's my issue as well. I looked him up and didn't think he had the required control for international cricket. I think he bowls loose balls too often, which is not surprising given his age and vocation. Seems to have serious potential though.

Having him to sit around a yard in Jamaica will serve no useful purpose. I am delighted that West Indies coaches have spotted the tremendous potential in him and have committed to the investment by having him in the international setup. This will do him a world of good for his confidence.

The coaches will determine his readiness and when to use this resource.

It is crucial at this stage of his development that he gets the reps especially with his unorthodox style. West Indian batsmen will also benefit from the net sessions.

By vitue of our limited setup some of us here have recommended this path of development..spot the talent, develop the talent. Imho it is the preferred mechanism to fast track our young players. The normal mechanism is not strong enough to develop young players to international standards. And in the absence of world class cricket academies in the region this might be our only option.. It is an organic necessity that our youngsters be exposed early.

Btw, this not T20 cricket. Which bowler gets clobbered bowling in the middle overs of ODI cricket?

on paper, it is almost criminal to throw a young inexperienced wrist spinner into the fold against the No 2 team in the world that has beaten up India in India. But we will see!
