Did West Indies Show Improvement Against SL?

Is the West Indies batting improving? Well, the last three Test series have brought nine centuries, including two doubles. Shai Hope leads the way with three, one each against India, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Justin Greaves scored 202 to rescue the West Indies against New Zealand and ran up 180 against Sri Lanka. Opener John Campbell made a hundred against India. Kavem Hodge scored a century against New Zealand. Amir Jangoo scored 233 in the first Sri Lanka Test, and Roston Chase, as questions rang out about his captaincy and place in the team, compiled an important 194 versus Sri Lanka.

These numbers suggest progress, and when you consider Brandon King’s three half centuries during that period, we see there is some run-making ability within the ranks. And yet, when compared with other Test nations, it shows that the West Indies have much work to do. Consider this, for example: the first West Indian batter in the ICC rankings is Justin Greaves who is listed at 49. After him there is Shai Hope at 51 and Amir Jangoo at 60. Now, every other Test-playing nation, save for Ireland, has one or more batters ranked higher than every West Indies batter.
