why are the worst umpires the first to complain
@Jumpstart
What's the joke? You are implying that Menon is a bad umpire, but his continued presence on the Elite Panel suggests he's one of the best. Although the headline quote 'Umpiring is a very tiring, very thankless, job' may seem like a complaint, the interview actually shows that he enjoys his role and wants to continue for a long time.
I remember a famous umpire from the subcontinent drinking rum at di airport in Bim at 10.00 am in di morning.
i sure wasn’t the only cricket fan or person who saw dat. There were lots of rumours long before dat.
@KTom
menon is a terrible umpire, an umpire who has been given a whole lot more wiggle room than other umpires. whoever he's friends with must be a person of extraordinary loyalty because Indians regularly call him out on incompetence.
.
Indian umpire Nitin Menon has been slammed for his atrocious performance in the first innings of missing a whopping five decisions – including a number that seemed fairly obvious.
In the very first over, Australian quick Mitchell Starc had Rohit Sharma edging the ball to Alex Carey behind the stumps on the opening ball of the Test – but Menon failed to hear the knick. Australia failed to review
Three balls later, Starc had Sharma trapped in front, but Menon again turned the appeals down. Once again Australia failed to review. And once again, video replays and ball-tracking technology showed that Menon had made the wrong decision.
The poor performance of the Indian umpires came under spotlight after an embarrassing error from on-field umpires C. K. Nandan and Nitin Menon, who allowed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s David Warner take strike after hitting a boundary off the last delivery of sixth over against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 10th edition.
The incident happened when Warner glided Jasprit Bumrah’s last ball of the sixth over to the third-man fence and then, surprisingly, went on to take strike off the first ball of the next over from Mitchell McClenaghan.
Neither Nandan nor Menon noticed the batsman’s mistake and surprisingly TV umpire Y. C. Barde too did not bring it to their notice. Warner went on to faced the first ball of the seventh over.
In the last game at this very venue, the same pair of on-field umpires was on duty when two MI batsmen were wrongly given out — the more glaring being the leg-before decision against home team captain Rohit Sharma against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

the only umpire i can compare him to are russell tiffin and billy bowden, who both made many, many errors but somehow lasted long as international umpires. sunil venkat's eyes started to go, but was one of the best up until 2003, and the same happened to rudi koetzen....they both retired before they were dropped although i would definitely take venkat, even in his last years over menon and bowden. And he's not the first. Ashoka de silva, one of the worst umpires in history, was a member of the inaugural elite panel, an umpire whose competence was both publicly and privately questioned by international players
