'Africans an endangered species'

Alexander’s ‘stark Emancipation warning’:

Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander says Africans have become “an endangered species”. He argued that more than 190 years after slavery was abolished, many continue to destroy themselves through crime, violence and a failure to prepare the next generation. Delivering an online presentation entitled: “Alexander’s stark Emancipation Day warning, Africans have become an endangered species”, Alexander questioned whether annual African Emancipation Day celebrations have resulted in meaningful progress, saying too many people remain trapped by what he described as a mentality rooted in slavery.

“I have more questions than answers because why after so long we are celebrating Emancipation but still mentally we are still on that slave ship making that same trip,” Alexander said. Alexander opined that while Africans proudly celebrated their culture, heritage, clothing, hairstyles and talents during Emancipation, those ideals were often not practiced throughout the rest of the year.

He also criticized individuals and organizations that, he claimed, embrace African identity only when seeking financial support, while failing to address deeper issues affecting the community. The minister acknowledged that his remarks might be unpopular but insisted difficult conversations were necessary. “I know some of us will not be impressed with what I say because most African males do not have the testicular fortitude to say it. We are endangered species, not just young men but Africans on a whole whether we like it or not. And who is doing all of this? We. We are doing it to each other. So what really changed?”
