At the start of this match, four players averaging over 40 in that period Greaves, Hope, Hodge and Jangoo, Hodge averages dipped to 37 with another failure, Campbell also averages 37, King average went up to 33.

Why are we using inadequate sample size in this analysis? Your argument would've been stronger if you said 3.Jangoo has played 4.5 tests with 1 double ton and you're using his 49 avg to say what really? In almost 3 tests vs Pakistan I doubt he averages 20. It is this kinda pressure/expectations you'll put on youngsters that can destroy them. And, all for the purpose of bigging up a coach who has failed and is still failing over a years long career.

You have heard that Jangoo is the second coming of Headley, now, for Reifer you will hear that he is finally turning the corner as a coach.
The real answer to that question is a stark improvement.....not because of the coach, but because these guys have finally realized that winning breeds confidence and above everything else, pride.
Prior to the last 12 months, these were pretty much the same guys on an assembly line, not sure from day to day where they stood.
I have noticed lately that each time guys come out to bat, they do so with a different attitude.
Hence the reason why one or more batters put up their hand to build a substantial partnership to enable the team to compete.
Chase and Jangoo
Hope and Hodge
Chase and Greaves...... to name a few of the big ones.
There have also been some small but still significant contributions from other pairs.
My point is the stats provided above are not really a good barometer for the performance. We will need a bigger statistical pool of data to see if these numbers will be sustained.
I am impressed with the approach so far and cautiously optimistic that we may have turned the proverbial corner.
The CWI and coaches and selectors should give the team a chance to cement their positions rather than their previous "cut and paste" attitude hoping to get a miracle from a bottle.
I an not saying that there should not be small changes, especially at t he top.
Chase is the captain and we have to accept that whether we like it or not. I am not sure about Warrican's role is in the team, especially as VC.
By and large I think we have the makings of a good middle order and a very good bowling unit.

The animosity towards Sammy did not start from when he was appointed head coach but from the time he was appointed West Indian Captain. Note credit was given to Ravi for the bowling improvements but no credit to Sammy or even Reifer for the obvious batting and overall team efforts. Some would say Reifer is in no position to coach anyone as he was a mediocre batsman. It is a flawed thought process as through the world of sport you find the most successful coaches to have been ordinary athletes.
Sammy assembled this team of coaches. Sammy brought back Hope, Chase, King, Campbell and Greaves all players who were ignored by selectors in the past. Sammy said look we want the best to play Test cricket as we cannot rely on a FC system that plays 5 games a year. All has not been perfect as I don't think he handled the Aljo situation well and Warrican's appointment is still questionable. Chase has managed to somewhat justify his captaincy position.
I always knew this year would be the real test of our progress as a test team as we are playing teams in the mid- table albeit ranked higher than us. Last year we played teams in the top 3. With 2 wins, 1 draw and another 300 + total we are looking good. Over to the bowling now...Shhh....Watch them praise Ravi if we dismiss Pakistan below 300.

But even a blind man could see the batting has improved especially in the 1st innings. And you can only go back to the cuttent WTC series, so no need to support you stats to the defenseless.
The WI team scores since India 2nd match:
vs Pakistan 344/10
311 and 181 vs Pakistan - we won
629/6 declared vs Sri Lanka we only batted once and won.
499 and 109/0 vs Sri Lanka match drawn
420 and 138 we lost vs NZD.
205 AND 128 we lost vs NZD.
167 AND 457/6 draw vs NZD.
248 AND 390 vs India.
In completed innings including declarations and drawn match we average 291.00 per inning.
So, so many of you are disingenuous, lack critical thinking or both! Who were the test team coaches between 2021-2024? State the scores, results and batting averages during that period. Now compare it to 25-26 in terms of performance against ranked team. NB we were not 27ened then. Waiting...no simplistic answers please.
