Jamaica signed to host 2031 FIFA Women World Cup

Fri, Aug 14, '26 at 6:54 AM

Huge congratulations to Jamaica!

This is a historic milestone for Jamaican football and one of the biggest sporting achievements in the nation's history.

Jamaica has officially signed the guarantee agreements required to host matches at the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup, alongside the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica.

The island is expected to host three to five group stage matches and one Round of 32 match, bringing the world's biggest women's football tournament to Jamaican soil. Preparations also include a major redevelopment of the National Stadium ahead of the tournament.

Hosting FIFA World Cup matches is about much more than football. It will put Jamaica on the global stage, boost tourism and the economy, create new opportunities, and inspire future generations of young girls to dream big through sport.

Congratulations, Jamaica! This is a proud and exciting moment for the nation. 🇯🇲⚽👏🏾

@VIX

Hope they don't screw this up. Hope they use the opportunity ( they won't) to rehabilitate the Trelawny stadium and host half the teams/matches there.

@Brerzerk

It'll be great man, prices might be high, that's the only thing

@Brerzerk

Hopefully, this will be silver lining for the Trelawny Multi-purpose stadium aka Usain Bolt Stadium. A once beautiful stadium stands unoccupied and needing renovations. About two years ago, at that same venue, I attended a worldwide youth camping activities by the SDA church and ironically Usain Bolt attended, gave a great speech and motivated the youths.

This might just be the thing to bring Cornwall Regional Hospital up to standards for both locals and the anticipated visitors loaded with dollars, eh Slippy? Might also get Anju to release certification of his finances'

😊

Vixie, l have little doubt the tourney, games and even logistics will be well on The JA leg. But, re Trelawny Stadium dem people could go.well beyond not wasting a crisis and waste an opportunity!

@CWW

Absolutely, Cornwall Regional Hospital, considered the largest public hospital in the English-Speaking Caribbean built by PM Michael Manley. Now being renovated and restored but seems to be taking a longer time with cost estimates climbing daily. Not wanting to sound petty, but many are not happy about such a large hospital built in Western Jamaica and not in the capital city of Kingston. 😀

Slippy, I was really speaking tongue-in-cheek and being sarcastic in my comments. Don't want to be a party pooper but not really jumping up and wave about getting the World Cup. This govt seems to be about giving us grand galas and other spectacles to distract from grave issues. See, Melissa relief not getting to the people, poor facilities and service in the medical system, poor black "squatters" houses being demolished in the dead of night, people still have tarpaulin roof after Melissa, and when next will fishermen and other locals be prevented from access to a beach so that another big corporation can put up a hotel and provide "good Jobs" at minimum wage rates. By the time the World Cup comes around we may have high rises rivaling what you see in Dubai, and poor black people will be put behind nicely painted zinc fences out of sight of the expected "thousands" of visitors.

While not picking any political sides since I have not actually lived in Jamaica for almost 40 years but I sense that you are attributing a substantial number of socioeconomic issues on the current government. For example, the land issue resulting in demolition of residential houses, as one who grew up in struggle, I empathize with the families losing their homes but this case has been ongoing for several years in the court system and the bottom line is that it might not be prudent or wise to build your house on private lands. My point is that I cannot understand how the government is linked to a private legal issue of the landowners and illegal dwellers.
