The global body approved nearly USD 13 million in aid for CWI
CEO Chris Dehring says Cricket West Indies still need to “find a way” despite a USD 12.82 million loan from the International Cricket Council (ICC). The ICC announced the credit under the classification of financial support to members at its Annual General Meeting and conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, in July.
Speaking on CVM TV’s Fan Central, Dehring said, “Well, this is just a loan for this fiscal year. The challenge that we have is a long-term scenario that we do have to find a way to re-engineer West Indies cricket based on what is happening now in the world of cricket.”
The ICC previously extended its hand to the board in 2012, providing the then-West Indies Cricket Board, alongside Zimbabwe, with assisted funding.
This is the second time in six years that CWI is receiving repayable financial aid after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) supplied them with a USD 3 million emergency loan in 2020, which the regional board repaid in full later that year.
This comes after CWI recorded revenues of USD 88 million in 2024 after co-hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup alongside the United States that year. After announcing a net profit of US $23 million, the board stated it was able to clear all its debt.
