Remembering 31 August 1968: OTD: Garry Sobers hits six sixes in one over, 58 years ago today.
On August 31, 1968, Sir Garfield Sobers became the first batsman in first-class cricket history to hit six sixes in a six-ball over, taking 36 runs from Glamorgan’s Malcolm Nash at St Helen’s in Swansea in the County Championship.
Nottinghamshire were pushing towards a declaration when Nash, normally a left-arm seam bowler, decided to experiment with slow left-arm spin. Sobers responded by striking his first four deliveries beyond the boundary.
