is it karma?

What a thing! They are as broke as the prosperous nation they left at indepencence in 1962 with GDP higher than Singapore. This video is a good lesson for those who can make the association between the two.

A powerful video, a powerful breakdown of how destructive colonization was for the places that went through it, history educators should show it to children in classes all over the world where colonization occurred. However, England is experiencing ' Poetic justice '', they left most of their former colonies in debt and undeveloped, the present President of the USA usually refer to those countries as " S...hole countries ".

Where the video and the forum comments lose objectivity is by blaming everything on post-colonial karma. Its an Indian video..

The Real Culprits: The British Army cutting training in 2026 isn't just a delayed reaction to losing the empire 80 years ago. It is the direct result of modern, localized economic mismanagement: sluggish productivity, massive public debt (94% of GDP), and the failure to fully recover from the 2008 financial crisis.

The "Broke" Exaggeration: Calling the UK a "broke nation" is a media exaggeration. The UK is still a trillion-dollar economy with a high standard of living. Having a temporary defense budget crunch and canceling tank exercises is an embarrassing political choice, but it doesn't mean the country is financially collapsing into the third world.

There is undeniable geopolitical theater happening here. India's economy is booming (accounting for 8% of global GDP) while the UK's share has shrunk to 2%.

However, the news network is celebrating the UK's downfall from a position of privilege while India itself still battles intense poverty and wealth inequality ("slums"). It's a classic case of a rising global power flexing its muscles at a declining one, using history to score modern political points.

The forum thread is essentially a group of people enjoying a "schadenfreude" moment (pleasure derived from another's misfortune). While the resentment toward the UK's colonial history is completely justified, using a modern military budget cut as proof of "karma" ignores the complex reality of 21st-century macroeconomics.
