Gudakesh Motie helped the Barbados Tridents smash 17 runs from the final over against the Jamaica Kingsmen to secure a dramatic win and a place in the Caribbean Premier League knockout stages on Saturday.
Coming in at No. 9, Motie slashed Odean Smith for four over point before taking him for a straight six in the first two legal balls. The under-pressure Smith gave up a couple of extras, leaving the Tridents needing just a single off the final delivery of the game for victory.
Motie earlier took 2 for 7 from three overs to halt momentum on the Kingsmen, who had already qualified, to 150 for 9. Shadrack Descarte’s 56 (42 balls) set up the chase towards the back end of the Tridents’ innings before Motie’s final-over heroics.
