St Mary’s College (CIC) dropped points for the second successive match but have taken a slender goal-difference lead atop the SporTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Boys’ Premier Division following round eight yesterday. After being held 1-1 by Hillview College in midweek, CIC fought back for a 2-2 draw yesterday against Presentation College of San Fernando.
Meanwhile, reigning champions Naparima College continued their steady climb up the table, overcoming a severely injury-hit Arima North Secondary 2-0 at Lewis Street, San Fernando, after a prolonged struggle to break down their opponents. Arima were without inspirational captain Micha’el John, who has scored four goals this season, five-goal Jediah David and key midfielder Jaden Samuels.
Returning to the Naparima line-up, Jaden Caprietta, one of last season’s top players, delivered the corner which Arima defender Javon Denoon headed into his own net in the 27th minute. Naparima Captain Jabari Rodriguez then doubled the advantage in the 71st minute, heading home from a corner with the ball going in off a defender.
