Emrit: Pooran an example of T20 League’s value

Rayad Emrit expected Kamil Pooran to be a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) player a year ago. But he sees his emergence this season and his subsequent West Indies selection as testimony to the value of the T20 Breakout League. The competition, held for the first time in May, 2025, saw the Trinidad and Tobago Legions, coached by Emrit, win the competition. Opening batter Pooran was part of that squad and was among the top ten batters in the tournament.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced it would not be holding the tournament in the proposed window early in the year, “given the increasingly congested international and domestic cricket calendar, coupled with preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.” No new dates have been announced for the tournament which was open to players under age 30 with limited professional experience. However, Emrit is urging the return of the League as soon as possible

About the strengths of ( Ka Poo) Pooran, who plays locally for Bess Motors Marchin Patriots, Emrit said: “I think he’s someone who controls the Powerplay really, really well. He is a six-hitter and he is someone who can take away the game in the Powerplay...so I think that’s one of his biggest assets.”Former T&T fast bowler and ex-Red Force chairman of selectors, Tony Gray also noted that in those opening six overs, Pooran was not intimidated. India is obviously gonna be a really good test for him. He is going to be playing on some good wickets, so that will be a plus for him, so hopefully he can continue the form and get even bigger scores in India.” “He’s going to come up against experienced bowlers who are well-skilled, so that will be a challenge.”
