Sammy: Chance to see where Windies at

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy will be using the upcoming One-Day International series against India as an opportunity to measure his team’s progress, with the visitors chasing a series victory in India for the first time in more than two decades.

The West Indies last won an ODI series in India in 2002, when the Caribbean prevailed 4-3 in a seven-match contest.The Shai Hope-led West Indies will face India in three ODIs beginning on Sunday in Thiruvananthapuram, followed by matches in Guwahati on September 30 and New Chandigarh on October 3.

And with the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualifiers set for early 2027, Sammy believes the series against the world’s No. 1-ranked team provides an important test of the progress made by his ODI unit.“It’s been 24 years we’ve not won a series in India,” Sammy said to CWI Media.
