Jamaica has welcomed 43 nurses from Ghana to help strengthen staffing in public hospitals across the island. The group arrived at Norman Manley International Airport on September 27 and includes specialists in critical care, paediatrics, emergency care, oncology and mental health.
Most will work in hospitals served by the Western and South East Regional Health Authorities, with others assigned to additional regions and the University Hospital of the West Indies. They are the first group under a four year agreement that aims to bring 400 Ghanaian healthcare workers to Jamaica.
