You should re-frame your question. When Gayle became the highest WI scorer of ODI tons it was Lara's record that he broke. Both of those men played either across or in a different era when scoring was tougher.

More importantly, considering how far ahead of his peers Viv was he may still be our greatest.

So.e of the reasoning here is mind-boggling. That's why Opening 's comment is the best on this post.

Some here will soon say 3W's and So ers not as good as current batsmen because they weren't hitting tons of sixes. To hell with context and changes throughout the eras.

Hope should open...De kock is opening...Dammy tactics, biasness and lack of game awareness...is big hindrance to success...Hope and Holder are two players who has evolved their game....

Auguste,Jewel can't be opener ahead of Hope..

Ford,Greaves can't be allrounder ahead of Holder..

Hope batting at 4....

His average dropped from 63 to 49

West Indies performance worsen, failed direct qualification,down to 10th in ICC rankings...

As usual another failed experiment by Dammy,Dataseetaram

Shai is an undeniable great nevermind some clown on this MB querying how many games he's won for us as if he can bat from both ends😂 ....he's gradually improving his test record after losing his way from a very promising start but will fall short of being considered an all format great mainly because of his age an the limited test matches schedule.

@Castled

In Test, context. He is an ODI god!

Disclaimer; he was woeful in Test at the time.
