Want a record call West Indies!

Big Dummy this onionman fella. Shai is limping why? We have him wk then opening and the only reason he opened is because of Jewel's injury.

Big dummy Onionman wants Shai to open:

Shai Hope kept wickets for 50 overs in the heat before coming out to open, and batted through 48.2 overs while struggling with a niggle to take West Indies to a much-needed win here in New Chandigarh! They have won their first ODI against India since 2023, and they've chased 352 despite being a batter short! Tossed full outside off and Hope eases a drive down to long-off, deservingly hitting the winning run as West Indies complete their highest successful ODI chase!

That can be an option, hopefully it will not affect his game as Jangoo is now averaging 50+ . Hope is 32 and we really cannot have him opening and batting at top so we need an option. Greaves and Campbell have shown good potential but Greaves seems injury prone but no doubt Shai is a master at the top, although his middle over averages are pretty good too, just not 60+ like when he is opening.

Shai brings out his best in ODI opening

Same as Adam Gilchrist

He should be batting 1-2

Kalluwitarna, Gilchrist, Steward,De kock et al ....all opened...best batter should bat 1 or 2.....

Thanks Jeez...Jewel got injured...

Dammy is totally out of coaching depth....his biasness towards Chase, Ford,Jewel,Auguste is big detrimental....

Keeping Shamar on bench...on this pitch.... first 15 overs...ball seaming, swinging....playing Ford ahead of Shamar....

This is definitely best for the team, any one against has to be a butt-licker. Shai need s therefore, for the team's best, is to open. Work on your fitness Sir Hope!

In T20Is as well!

essentially, Sammy got a victory thru luck of events outside of his control! Is that accurate?

Yes, Hope best return is as opener, but why did Hope to move down the order, in an interview he said to open up a space his hommie Brandon King in T20 and ODI.

If he returned to the top, where would Andrews, Auguste bat or even Greaves?

Shai Hope was moved down as WI were struggling in the middle overs vs spin. BTW he averages near 50 @ 4 which proves that this move was a success.

It also allowed for others to step up at the top and so they did with Campbell, Greaves, and even Carty. The emergence of Jangoo does allow for another good player of spin who maybe able to slot in at 4, while Shai opens. Again Shai Hope is 32 and an all-format player and we need him to be available to play for us all the time so we cannot afford to overwork him. If we are going to have him open then give the gloves to Jangoo.

Well done Sammy for brining in Greaves, Jangoo and the like to allow for Hope to finally get some much needed consistent help.

Both Andrews and Auguste should be playing A team cricket. Not being force riped in a WI senior team.

As for Greaves, he has shown he can bat anywhere in the order and be effective.

Regarding Shai Hope wicketkeeping, that is purely down to the head coach. Despite having 3 keepers in the squad, he continues to insist that Shai MUST wicketkeep, regardless of format.

Even if Shai were to say he’s good to wicketkeep, the head coach is the ultimate decision maker. He making sure to wring every last drop out of Shai Hope. For what exactly? To get a result in a series that doesn’t matter because no matter what we do, we won’t automatically qualify for the World Cup.

What happens if GOD forbid Shai were to get injured and unable to play, who would keep then? Wouldn’t you take this opportunity to get valuable match practice against some of the best players in the world?

Head coach knows his best chance to get a positive result is Shai Hope, and that’s all he cares about so he can talk about strides. To ass with what happens to the players in the process.

I agree that both Andrews and Auguste should be playing at A team level. Greaves seems to prefer batting at the top.
