Pollard set to make debut after being selected by Knight Riders

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Barbadian left-arm pacer Jakeem Pollard was one of only five West Indians snapped up at the ILT20 auction on Thursday. The 18-year-old speedster, who impressed in his debut at the 2026 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), was purchased by the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders for US$10,000. He will have fellow West Indian Andre Fletcher as a teammate, after he was bought for US$40,000 and will link up with Dwayne Bravo, who will serve as a coach at the Knight Riders.

Veterans Sunil Narine and Jason Holder were also retained by the franchise. Meanwhile, fast bowler Alzarri Joseph was the most expensive West Indian at the auction, with the Gulf Giants snapping him up for US$230,000. He will join forces with fellow fast bowler Shamar Joseph (US$80,000) and top order batter Alick Athanaze who was purchased for US$10,000.

The tournament will still feature several West Indians with Shimron Hetmyer being retained by the Desert Vipers, Rovman Powell by the Dubai Capitals and Nicholas Pooran, Romario Shepherd and Sherfane Rutherford by MI Emirates. However, several other West Indians including Roston Chase, Brandon King, Matthew Forde, Kamil Pooran, Quentin Sampson, Gudakesh Motie went unsold

Agreed, he needs to stay away from this fast money and develop his bowling skills, he is only 18 years old.

I get what you are saying somewhat, but we cannot afford the delay, at 18 he could and should be getting ready for international, this exposure in a professional coaching set up will do him good, besides there is not a lot of quality red ball opportunities knocking at his door right now apart from our elite division here in Barbados and certainly this is far better. He will be fine

As long as this is not the norm, but odd such selection of a talent, is fine by me.
