Rampaul pleads for better execution
West Indies look to square series in 2nd T20I
West Indies’ chances of levelling the five-match T20I series against India today will depend heavily on the bowlers improving their execution and the batters avoiding the familiar collapses that have undermined them in the past. That is the assessment of West Indies bowling coach Ravi Rampaul, who believes greater consistency with the ball and better batting through the middle overs will be crucial when the teams meet in the second T20I at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi from 9.30 a.m.
With the second T20I moving to the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Rampaul expects similar batting-friendly conditions, with dew again likely to make life difficult for the bowlers in the second innings. “Definitely we saw that in the last game, that the second innings was a little better for batting with the dew that was presented,” Rampaul said during yesterday’s pre-match news conference. “Again for all bowlers, it’s just executing our plans as a bowling group.”
The bowling coach said the team had identified specific plans for each Indian batter but failed to maintain the required discipline for long enough in the opening match. “We weren’t good enough to execute for a longer period during the game,” he said. “We see that when we do execute, we get opportunities to take wickets. So it’s about just building that confidence as a bowling group, knowing that the conditions would be the same throughout India.”
