Ironically...

...Roston Chase at the moment should be playing in only one format for the West Indies and only as a bowling allrounder. And this is T20.

Reason being:

He seems to have a clear bowling plan and he has the ability to analyze batsmen and bowl accordingly.

If things are not going right he can think on his feet and change his bowling to suit the circumstances

He will only come to bat when all big hitters have been used. The game would have been lost more often than not.

He is an above average fielder.

...............................

In test and ODI:

His batting weakness against short pitched bowling aimed at his heart will always be problematic.

In ODI, the middle overs are where you want more penetrative bowlers; Chase lacks penetration. If you don't take wickets in the middle overs you will be mauled by good teams at the end of the innings.

In test he plays as a batting allrounder but the same lack of ability to play genuine pacers exists.

The test team will benefit more with a specialist spinner who has proven penetrative. This deficiency of quality spin bowling is what is keeping Chase on the side.

I've been disappointed in his abilities "falling away." He was once a pretty useful 30 sinting middle order batsman and more than a part-time offie. One would expect that as veteran he'd be doing better. It has taken too many years to return to his best or near best abilities and consistency which suggests it won't happen. The technical team should be able to either fix that or identify if it is futile. So, a pox on their houses too.
