The first day of the third and final Test match against Pakistan in Karachi was a pretty good day for the West Indies. The pitch is horrendous for Test cricket because of the extremely slowness and lowness of it.
It is the worst Test pitch I have ever seen so far in my career because the ball was almost rolling on the very first day of the Test match. Full Story

It was a bad toss to lose. Karachi has the history of whoever bats first wins.. even if they score low... remember the last Ind-pak test here :evil:

The wicket was seaming. They were bowling too short. Whenever the Pakistanis received a ball pitched on a good length, they were in big trouble. Yousuf had a close LBW appeal to a good length ball of Collymore (I think) before he finally succumbed to a similar length ball that was hitting middle.
We did/do not need Tadpole. What we needed was disciplined bowling and good fielding AND keeping. Yousuf showed that front foot play is the order of the day on this wicket.

They bowled many many loose deliveries and gave away too many boundaries, so for them to have gotten so many qickets for so few runs probably means that the pitch isn't that great for batting. Disciplined bowling and catching would have seen Pakistan all out already.

In reply to gvenkat Sanjay Manjrekar pursued technical perfection like a man obsessed, but for a batsman hailed as the next Sunil Gavaskar, he ended up with a career that was largely unrealised. Though he never saw his father Vijay bat, those who did couldn't help commenting that the technical rectitude was inherited. His century against a four-prong West Indian pace attack at Bridgetown in 1988-89 was masterful, and he followed it up with a double and single century in Pakistan. But he only managed one other century - a laboured if match-saving effort in Zimbabwe's inaugural Test. He struggled to find his rhythm and form on bouncy pitches in Australia and South Africa, and never recaptured that poise and balance. Manjrekar made an unsuccessful attempt at reinventing himself as an opener in 1997, and faded out of the international scene. He kept wicket occasionally, and often regaled team-mates with his singing. He now works as a television commentator and media pundit.

In reply to Arawak I was thinking the same thing earlier today. He plays well forward this should serve him well as long as he plays the correct line. This pitch could see some LBWs dismissals in the coming days.

Gayle's just foxin...now when he comes out and peels off 200 he's gonna look like a champion...on that hurrendous pitch and all...
Poor batsmen, it's not enough that bats get more and more powerful, boundaries get smaller and smaller, they get more pads and helmets than ever before and pitches are covered. Why shouldn't they all get to bat on completely flat tracks as well? It's just not fair that they should actually have to prove their ability on pitches that challenge them.
de last time a senior WI player bad mouth the pitch, WI lost big time.
