West Indies captain Brian Lara spoke with the media after the vicory over India in the third One Day International in Chennai. Following are excerpts from his responses.
On Marlon Samuels possibly turning the corner:
I don't know about turning the corner but what I do know is that in the last two wins that we've had Marlon Samuels was a top performer with the bat so I think that is something very good for us. We are trying to build a lot more match winners in the team. We've got the likes of Chris Gayle and (Shiv) Chanderpaul, (Ramnaresh) Sarwan so we need a lot more.

Redskunt is reallya skunt
This talk of winning the World Cup is very iffy....the talk should be playing consistently well from game one and trying to win each game going into the super eights and quarter then semi finals...
In reply to redbaron Ha ha ha, boy, you are a master at twisting. I bet Jerry Lewis was your favorite character. You mek Chrissy look like a school gyal dey.

Honesty is the best policy ... and so a complete quote of Lara's point would have served you better ... here goes:
...
It is more representative of Lara's true meaning and intent so please ... no need for deceit. And YES .. what BCL said in that statement is so RASS true. Be truthful to yourself as well as others.

I guess every team is talking about having a chance to win the WC..
The format for this WC is pretty good..
WI need to win the 2 games against the minnows (Zimbabwe and Ireland)...
And then at least 4 of the 7 games against the remaining Test playing teams...
And then at the semi-final and final stage...it is just a matter of winning two VERY IMPORTANT games...
A pretty difficult task but not impossible..
There are no bonus points in this WC...
And the points system is simply
Win 2
Tie or no result 1
Loss 0

WI tend to play well in this short format, the DLF Cup and ICC Trophy come to mind, this series in India should have been the final few int'l games to get in top shape....the problem is, there are many problems still to be sorted out....
The Aussies are pretty much oiling their machine...WI, India, Pakistan are still stuttering along with SL, NZ...England are in the dumps with the minnows bringing up the rear....
We have had a good chance to get our formula sorted, but we are lagging, hopefully it can all fall in place.....
In reply to Isah
I fear that at the rate things are going now ... we will still be sorting out, and chopping/changing come WC ...
The bottom line is ... whatever team members are chosen on any given day .... had better be prepared to PLAY winnable cricket from the start of the prelims to the very next games .... planning for each -- one game at a time. 8)
In reply to np That's obvious boss
In reply to jala
Presently .. it does not seem so obvious to those who matter most .... ALL the WI players. :( :(
In reply to np
That should be the the watch word, every man in must play winnable cricket....
Well said....

Skipper you are on the ball. However, if your team can limit extras to single digits in every game.I believe you would be on your way to win the the WC To achieve this they have to do the basics right So there is a lot of work to be done to eliminate no balls and wides completely.Only leg byes should be in the extras column. If your team aims for such standards there is no doubt that we can be the first host team to win the WC.

I see that YOU know about Cricket .
Most of the Mongrels , Morons & Blowhards on this MB , rather than focusing on these things would rather talk about who should or shouldnt be on the Team .
Like you , I am interested in the amount of balls that bowlers bowl down the legside thereby giving away freebees to opponents . The wides , dropping catches , loose bowling etc .
These seemingly insignificant things loom very large in the outcome of One Day Matches . Naturally the ability to produce large run totals is also important and relevant .
These are the ingredients that brings a team victory .
first time after a long time been to a match.
wonderful match it was indeed.
Indians got of to a wonderful start thanks to Uthappa and then were looking good to make 350 even 400, but WI came back into the game by bowling them out for 268. Bravo came back well after being smashed.
Devon and Marlon batted well to start of and then de genius took over with some superb shots. first time ah saw him at the match and what an innings he played.
though i was bit disappointed by the ending where the win could have been more convincing.
nice to watch a day night match at de stadium.
congrats to WI.
In reply to vivek_shankar153 I am trying to figure out how Windies won without Bradshaw, Taylor, Dwayne Smith and Chanderpaul....I wonder who will they axe to bring them back for the last game???????
Gayle is out of form but you cannot drop him, Morton is not making a liar out of us by proving he can play spin...
It will be interesting to see the final 11 in what order.
(1)Gayle, (2)Chanderpaul, (3)Devon Smith, (4)Samuels, (5)Lara, (6)Bravo, (7)Simmons,
(
Ramdin, (9)Bradshaw, (10)Taylor, (11)Powel/Dwayne Smith/Emerit
