HEADLINE: Sarwan Slams Guyana Cricket Administrators

Ramnaresh Sarwan is not at all happy with the state of cricket administration in Guyana.
The West Indies vice-captain went public with his criticism of the Guyana Cricket Board, arguing that the board's priorities are misplaced. "Sadly I have to say that I do not think that 'cricket' is the priority in Guyana, unfortunately it seems as though people have other things as their priority. I think the administrators of Guyana's cricket need to get things right and put 'cricket' back as the priority," Sarwan declared.

cricketers, journalists, and the public, are now attributing the failure of west indies cricket to its source: the appaling incompetence of the administrators, and the lack of structure orgaination, and accountability in its management.

Mr Sarwan, US $1,000,000 is a lot of money to share among 15 or so Guyanese cricketers...and well did they deserve that money.
But pray tell...what allyuh do with money if allyuh bitching now for gear that would cost a fraction of each player's share?
I acknowledge that the board should supply gear...but if they can't/won't, all yuh go do is bitch?
If you did spend some of your money to provide gear for your teammates, you know how much you coulda embarrass the ass out of Shitty and dem by doing that and turn public opinion against them?
Mr Sarwan, I suggest that is time you stop seeing yourself as a cricketer only, start seeing yourself as a leader and potential administrator and make moves to try to replace Shitty and dem.
You have seen how much WIPA has done to force improvement of the administration of WI cricket by the vigilance and militance of the WIPA, so ably led by Dinas.
It's time for people like you to do the same for the regional boards...or to them, if they behave like the Bandits they spawn.
Is time to cease bitching and start acting...in the interest of Guyanese and WI cricket.
Is time for you all, the players, to oust Shitty and dem skunts, who only using allyuh to enjoy position and power while doing nothing for the cricket.
Watch and see....the boards that re-electing dem skuntholes are the ones whose countries' cricket going down the drain....

Wake up...smell de coffee, Mr Sarwan. You could lead Guyana out of the land of cricket bondage and into the promised land of cricket excellence once more.
People love you, Mr Sarwan...not Shitty. People pay to see you, Mr Sarwan...not Shitty. Poster here name "GirlwholovesSarwan"...not "GirlwholovesShitty", Mr Sarwan.

Sarwan is quite rightly spending his money on under priviledged kid who need education.
Let the board do their jobs and get teh gear. It is not his responisbility to do that, especially since he knows that the board recieved 1/2 million dollars from their sweat.
Let them use the money accordingly and let Sarwan continue to use his personal money how he see fit.

Listen, I never expect people like you to be able to see any further than nose and to understand tactics and strategy when dealing with malignant enemy.
Sarwan's outburst can be seen by some as a shot acroos Shitty and dem bow, but many will see it as an "attack" on the administrators, and Shitty and dem could even use it to say that he "indisciplined"...and you can bet that they will hit back.
If he had used my suggested tactic, he would have badly wounded the Shitty board....take the high ground...demonstrated that he not only talk...bitch...but act to remedy situation, and therefore take leadership role in something the Shitty board responsible for. Spend own money, mek the Shitty board look all the more bad for having received half million and the players have to buy own gear.
And Shitty and dem would not have been able to retaliate, as that would have meant more embarassment for them.
That would have been the thin end of the wedge, and once you get the thin end in, all you need to do is beat on wedge.
Instead, he has inadvertently missed the opportunity to get a hold of the reins, even if for a instant...but one that would have put him in command and on the stage where he could have driven home a few more wedges....points.
You don't understand strategy and tactics, son. You don't understand that sometimes is far more effective to do people wuk for them than to bitch that they not doing it.
The former win small skirmish...maybe.
The latter wins the war.

Doesn't tiefing stem from mismanagement? Doesn't mismanagement lead to tiefing? Where there is smoke there is fire. I am not saying that anybody stole from the GCB, I'm simply saying that the implication of tiefing is raised in the actions or inactions of the GCB. I'll also say that a lot of mismanaged organizations without clear accountability practices in Guyana are highly likely to have members who engage in tiefing.

Firstly, the cricketers are working for the money and are not tiefing it as you suggest. They may be working badly but it is not entirely their fault. The administration locally and regionally have to be held responsible more than the cricketers.
Secondly, my point about the "mismanagement" of regional cricket is there for all to see. It is unfortunate that these old heads continue to hold on to their posts in spite of their incompetence.

I think you misunderstand my point. The WIPA like the Aus and Eng PAs agreed to 25% of revenues. That is the benchmark in the cricket world. They negotiated for that amount. If they wanted more they should've asked for more.
The WIPA's distrubtion of revenues is ridiculous. FC players get a pittance compared to intl players. A select few players control Ramnarine and the WIPA's agenda and they ensure they get paid. What this will lead to is division. In effect, the money goes to a select few in both organizations.

Your proposal is commendable on a theoretical level. It is not easy for players to assume leadership roles in those dens of snake skin that the local boards have become. The whole process is rigged. You did not continue to discuss what would happen when players who speak out are "disciplined" because they are standing for their rights.
Players who speak out without consideration of tactics and strategy, maybe. But those who think and then act will not be easily painted as being "indisciplined".
But in any case, picking scab team is not a winning strategy...is a losing one, and I don't mean game results. It's been tried and failed, discredited, so it will not be easy to resort to that again.
Also, WIPA and the players have gained a lot of moral ground over the Bandits and Digisellout over the past year or so...more than the general public knows about, so it will be extremely difficult for the Bandits to try any such shyte again. There is stuff that they would not want to be made public.
I cannot name any WI cricketer who will make the mistake that Chanderpaul made. Can you?
One cannot be afraid to engage the enemy for fear of consequences. If Nelson Mandela feared consequences and did not act, RSA would still be apartheid.
If BCL and certain other players feared and did not act, players rights would have been lost forever to Digisellout, we probably would still have a scab team, and scabbing would have become the norm.
The fight must be taken to the enemy, fugg fear of consequences, especially in this case where life is not at stake and you know that the public will side with you.

It seems that my call for a complete reformation of the WICB is justified by the reports of Chris Gayle & Sarwan . Please bear in mind that the Presidents of the Regional Boards are the embodiment of the WICB .
Remember dem is the same people that some of us want to give public money . Without supervision or oversite .
The fact that these people aint have term limitations ,means that they belive that they are like Papa Doc . President for life . " POWER CORRUPTS , AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY " .

That will only result in them replacing each other in rotation.
Total riddance. That's the only way.
The players have the power, and more and more they realising that, resulting in little outbursts like Gayle's and Sarwan's, which would never have taken place in the past.
Now what they need to do is to take actions that will replace some of the Bandits function and authority, especially when Bandits provide golden opportunities by their skuntish actions of lack thereof. Whittle away at the structure at first, then when it weaken enough, take sledgehammer to it.
Look forward, not sideways. The Bandits destroying WI cricket.

You come here and pretend that you think Sarwan is a rich man and he can circumvent teh baord by spending his money. And then you dare to say people not seeing further than their noses.
My contention is that the money is there and has been won by the players, so they can insist that it is spent properly.
You are being naive if you think that anyone spending his own money will only serve to embarass the "malignant enemy," as you so aptly put it. But isn't it the same malignancy that will play right into their hands? If they currently do not care what the public perception of their actions are, why do you think Sarwan's money would be well spent in providing more leeway for these people to become acountable? It will only serve to give them more money to waste instead.
Transparency and accountability will only be won by exposing their incompetency. In the grand scheme of things you have dreamt up a strategy that only a rich man can embark on. But you think that by dreaming it up it is alreay a success.
Each of those cricketers have to build their own future with their earnings. Their professional life span is over by the time they get to 35 - 40 years old.

My contention is that the money is there and has been won by the players, so they can insist that it is spent properly.
Fool, what part of "win skirmish but lose war" you unable to understand????
And why can't you see the forest for the trees???? That there's a much bigger issue at stake...WI cricket???

I am wondering when some of us will bring up the issue of the Charlatans who masquerade in this Region as Sports Journalists .
They along with the Presidents of the Regional Boards ,who constitute the WICB are , as I have stated over and over , are responsible for the noncompetitiveness of our team and the failure to improve Cricket in the Region .
The Presidents of the Regional Boards who are the core of the WICB , have done little to make our team competitive . Their bedfellows the Pseudo Sports Journalists , are perpetually silent on the flaws , faults and blunders of the WICB .

Instead of calling me a fool, why don't your address the point I have raised wrt your proposal? The concept is a good one, but it needs an infusion of cash that you cannot seriously expect Sarwan to fund out of his pocket.
Why you insist on being hard headed in pursuit of your proposal without easily recognizing its drawback? Your strategy will not make it without that cash?
I notice when you are unable to counter an argument you revert to name calling etc.
And yes, I agree that the baords need to be replaced but there has to be an orgainzed approach. No 1 person cannot do it.

I asked RedMoron why Cashman Ramnarine don't fund the coups in the region with players running for office? Now, that is good money spent. Instead of overpaying skuntholes like Dwayne Smith, the excess money should be pooled to fund takeovers and hostile ones too.

Read this
The complicity of the media in bad sports journalism
But the problem is not just that the powerful leaders of world sport are increasingly invisible and unaccountable; media, too, are complicit in this lack of transparency.
The degree of economic interdependence between media and the world of sports whether through advertising, sponsorship or negotiation of television rights has led to complacency and worse in the editorial approach to sports reporting.
Self-censorship is rife, not only because invisible powers work their magic in the news room, but also because journalists themselves often opt for the comforts of close association with their official sources rather than establishing professional distance.
Within sports journalism there is a range of clubs and associations of journalists and writers attached to specific disciplines that have a sometimes unhealthy
relationship with sports federations. Who will ask the difficult and awkward questions if the consequences are potentially damaging to the advertising department, to the sponsorship of events or television revenues or may undermine access to covering major sports events?

I am proud of Sarwan. For faaaaaaar too long administrators of cricket forget that paying patrons pay to see players produce on the field and on the cricket pitch and not them, the admins play dodge ball with transparency. No one can escape Sarwans expectation; YOU WON THE 20/20...the whole region looking to see some tangible reflection of that glorious victory. If you give a child a loaded gun...someone will get hurt..and its usually family. The board needs to take stock and respond POSITIVELY to Sarwans charges by DOING the right thing for Guyanese Cricket. ANY attempt to muzzle established players or punish them under circumstances like this WE as WEST indians need to SEND a loud clear and unequivocal message.STOP the ROT and put Cricket FIRST!!!
Hats off to You SARWAN and you too CHRIS for JAs sake

Ah Dat Me a Say long time now .
This is precisely why I want a complete Reformation of the WICB or a new entity replacing it .
I honestly believe that if the WICB knew that they would be raked over the coals for their Blunders , flaws , and faults , they would aspire to do good works , but knowing that their bedfellows would be silent , and refuse to criticize them , has embolden , and encouraged them
to Govern Cricket in the Region like a Mauby Shop .
As I have stated over and over , there are a lot of square pegs in round holes in the WICB .
It is for that reason why there needs to be a Personnel Inventory . I am firmly of the opinion that some people are doing very little ,or nothing and getting paid .
The WICB if it wants support needs to open all its books , have total transparency & Accountability .
One of the cancers in the WICB is the lack of TERM LIMITATIONS . Another cancer is the fact that most Presidents of
the Regional Boards run the Boards as their personal Fiefidom . Term Limitations would excise this cancer .

Why don't Dinas plan and fund the coup within the local boards?
If he's smart he would know that the more support he has on the local boards, the better leverage he has when bargaining with the WICB.
Are you crazy, there is nothing at the local boards to interest Dinas. There is nothing at stake at the local boards for the players union to be interested. The players association will only become interested at the local level when the other 100 players in its association demand proper representation and renumeration from the pot of money that the union has actually negotiated for them but dispersed to a chosen few.

recent developments are far worse...they have removed bish panday from representing GCB on the WICB and replaced him with another relic from berbice, peters.
The clubs need to change their county boards, who in turn need to change the constitution and call for 2 term presidencies.
Besides which we need to face the fact that our players could face further investigations with a bookie at the helm of our cricket!!

There are those who believe that Ramnaresh Sarwan is looking for some cheap publicity here. I beg to disagree. I do believe, however, that Ronnie should be more focused on restoring his confidence - severely hampered by injuries in the last few years. Being dropped from the team certainly did not help matters. His batting has suffered tremendously, and opposing attacks, right or wrong, feel that he has gone soft. WC 2007 will answer these lingering questions.
