Glenford , I am delighted that you have finally had a Saul on the road to Damascus Transformation . We have talked several times while I was residing in SVG . You were always a die hard supporter of the WICB .

Gayle is a lazy cricketer and must be dropped from this team, he plays as though he is standing on glue. Sorry if you don't like what is being said, but these are the facts. Apart from the last game Sarwan is another player must be dropped. He plays across the line, consistently gets hit on his helmet and cant resist the hook shot, on top of this you cannot depend on both of them. Bravo, Dwayne Smith and Samuels along with Gayle will never make my WI team if I had a choice. I do believe that Lara should step down as captain in both forms of the game, his captaincy leaves much to be desired. Coach Bennett King has to go, he is nothing but a waste of time and money. Seeing is believing. I think that its time that Devon Smith, Joseph, Parchment, Simmons, Rampaul, Lawson, Jaggernauth and Sammy given a fair chance and not just a game or two, along with Lara, Chanderpaul, Ganga, Ramdin, Powell, Taylor and Collymore. This would be my fifteen man squad for England. It would be nice to win, however, it is also time to rebuild. The Coaching staff should consist of three coaches of whom the WICB should ask past WEST INDIAN legends to do the job along with an outside sport physio preferably from the US to help keep these guys fit, ready and mentally strong. I also would like to see along with these guys selected, a core of players comprising of 25 in total in a camp throughout the year while not on cricket duty for the physical, mental and tactical development of their game.

There are several fatal flaws in your argument, because you have deliberately circumvented the problems with Windies cricket. Anyone can name their 15 players under the guise of being pragmatic. However, at the end of the series, whether ODI or test, the results are destined to be the same, and that is, another string of ignomious defeats for those purporting to be "class" cricketers.

Until the root cause of the problems is addressed honestly and diligently, I don't care which coach or coaches, Windies legend(s), Reggae artiste or Calypsonian are used, the results WILL NOT CHANGE! The standard of cricket in the Caribbean is at an all time low because:

1. The young talented cricketers no longer have the platform of the English County Cricket leagues to hone their skills and professionalism and there is no comparable substitute in the Caribbean.

2. The constant harping about money is a CONSTANT distraction. Neither the WIPA nor the WICB seems capable of reasonableness and therefore both are culpable where this distraction is concerned by being the catalysts for its prolongation. The players therefore sulk their way to the crease like little children deprived of a McDonald's or Wendy's hamburger and Coca Cola and their lack of performance is the result.

3. Insularity is alive and well, whether we want to believe such or not. It is one of the main issues holding back the advancement of cricket in the Caribbean. We simply need to just look at how the teams are selected to understand that it is not about the best players being invited. Barbados at one time, for example, boycotted a match because their homeboy was not selected. Until we are matured enough and honest enough to accept the obvious - select the best available players always - cricket will continue to suffer.

4. Training facilities across the Caribbean are in dire need of improvement. Fill in the blanks...............

5. The WICB is devoid of those who understand what it takes for proper and effective administration of the game at all levels. Fill in the blanks............

I was fortunate to be studying in Australia during the Kerry Packer World Series era to witness perhaps the best cricket ever played. I also know for a fact that after the Windies started whipping all and sundry back then, that the Australian cricket authorities in particular took it upon themselves to emulate the approach of the Windies. They did not stop there and built several academies around the sub-continent that has spawned the Ricky Pontings of the current Australian squad. Maybe it is time that the WICB admits its collective ineptness, study the approach of the successful cricketing countries and use the data gathered to develop a first class program for the Caribbean.

I want to express my thanks for what you have stated .

You may or may not know that sometime in the recent past , a certain Professor from Barbados started making noise about having an Academy at the UWI Campus in Barbados .

Upon hearing him I realized that the Academy in Grenada was in trouble .

Not long after that the Academy in Grenada was closed . Now we are being told that it was for lack of funds . I however have serious doubts about that .

You have failed however to mention an important component in this fiasco , and that is the Charlatans who masquerade as Sports Journalists in this Region many of them well known who for decades have witnessed all the malgovernance of the WICB and said absolutely nothing . My opinion is that they are complicit with the WICB for the sorry state West Indies Cricket is in . THEY HAD AND HAVE THE POWER OF THE PEN AND DID NOTHING .

By their silence they helped keep the WICB in power , it is for that reason I have labelled them the bedfellows of the WICB aka the Pirates .


In that respect they were like Manicou rather than Men . But now that the S... HAS HIT THE FAN , SOME OF THEM HAVE HAD A SAUL ON THE ROAD TO DAMASCUS TRANSFORMATION .

In any discussion of Cricket in the Region their actions must be highlighted .

Yes, you are correct of course regarding those in the journalism profession. An honest and committed press can be a potent weapon for advancement of the society in which it operates. Unfortunately, the journalists in the Caribbean, with precious few exceptions, fall way short of the excellence needed to expose follies that obtain in the WICB and other entitities across the region, including several governments.

What I have pointed out is all about the present and short term plans. However, the situation goes way beyond what I have mentioned and would not materialise over night. I do agree with what you said which I have mentioned in other headings and website as long term solutions to WI cricket.
