HEADLINE: Don't blame Ken Gordon alone

commentary by DALE RANKINE

Ken Gordon and his board aren't the only ones responsible for the state of West Indies cricket.

While Mr. Gordon has his own flaws, and must take responsibility for some of the decisions he made without unanimity (or consensus, if indeed so) there are so many others who have served WI cricket, without distinction for many years and have presided over only the demise of our beloved game Full Story

Whenever someone is criticized, their defenders come up with this ridiculous assertion that people are saying that everything is due to their failings.Nobody ever said that 100% of the problems of WI cricket is due to Ken Gordon.Likewise nobody is saying that it is entirely due to the captain or BK or WICB or WIPA.It is a false argument designed at setting up strawmen.

GO CC.COM, GO. SHINE THE LIGHT

i have never been so pleased, to see cc.com making a determined effort to illuminate the ills of WI cricket.

we will no doubt see vile and vitriolic personal attacks on the author: jackass, batty man, idiot, hater, glory hunter.

so sad that there are so many uncouth illiterates who are destitute of intellectual capacity and powers of reason, whose reaction to anyone expressing a viewpoint contrary to theirs, is to hurl vile invective and irrational personal abuse.

I would take out the word "illiterate" out of your statement and then apply it. That word has its own connotation and will allow people to disparage the true sense of what you say.

It is strange that we live in a world where freedom of speech is sacrosanct, but people do not like to hear the other POVs.

This is not the best written article.

He remains the only top player to practice so little (no wonder so many bowlers can easily exploit his know and uncorrected weaknesses, series after series).

Anybody who writes this must be an ass.

The one man that works on his game far more than any other player Windies on the scene. The one player to maintain an average above 50. The one player that continue to score heavily in tests despite being three years past 35.

Fence sitters and retarded ole skunts that masquerade as intellectuals should know that the real issues to be addressed are were not mentioned in the article.

As I said before, the more we discuss and pay attention to non issues, the less likely real issues will be dealt with.

Just another bullshit article attampting to assassinate de character of one man.

Again, you Lara apologists should stop fooling yourselves by hiding behind his PAST PERFORMANCES and accept the reality of his PRESENT INABILITY TO PERFORM. Lara HAS BEEN a good batsman (not great, as that is reserved for individuals like Headley, Bradman and Sobers)and must now make way for a young player. He has earned enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life, so what motivation does he have to perform, other than more records? I wrote in another post that Courtney Walsh, a former good fastbowler (not great, as that is reserved for Mikey Holding, Malcolm Marshall, Dennis Lillee and Freddy Truman) hanged on for far too long to set a record of 519 test wickets at the expense of a young fastbowler or two. Who has that record now??? Any plans to carry Lara on the next tour to England, even as a 12th man, would be ill-advised! If you really have Windies cricket at heart you would set aside your insularity permanently.

Please tell us who there were, are or soon will be. Thanks

I hve now read the article and suggest the headline is misleading. The article should really be "Its all because of Lara"
Mon, Apr 16, '07 at 12:46 PM
In reply to Fortis what past performance? In the last test series of 3 matches Lara scored two hundreds, including a double. To say Lara doesn't practice is ridiculous

WELL WELL WELL , Once again we hear from one of the Charlatans .

In this Fiasco there is blame to go around to ALL . Let me again utter a Regional phrase :
FISH DONT ROTTEN FROM THE TAIL UP . This WE all know is a fact .

That being the case the sorry state of Cricket in the Region must rightly fall on the performance of the Entity charged with the responsibility of Governing Cricket in the Region .

That entity is the WICB , aka the Pirates . FOR DECADES THEY HAVE DONE LITTLE OR NOTHING TO IMPROVE THE COMPETITIVENESS OF OUR TEAM ; AND ALSO THE STANDARD OF CRICKET IN THE REGION .

They had to have known that an alternative had to be found when our players werent allowed to play County Cricket . BUT THE MORONS DID ZILCH .

Because of this ineptness , lack of vision and utter stupidity , WE NOW HAVE A BUNCH OF PLAYERS WHO AINT KNOW , AND DONT CARE WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A PROFESSIONAL CRICKETER .

Yes a bunch of cry babies , who it seems have absolutely no pride in representing us , lack any knowledge about the rich history of West Indies Cricket , which WAS ACHIEVED WITHOUT ANY BLASTED INPUT FROM THE WORST INCOMPETENT CORRUPT BOARD .

The Pirates are AIDED & ABETTED BY THE CHARLATANS WHO MASQUERADE IN THE REGION AS SPORTS JOURNALISTS . MANY WELL KNOWN .

Their job it seems , is to place a band aid over the Cancer that
Governs Cricket in the Region .
They have never been truly critical of the WICB , THEY REFUSE TO INVESTIGATE THE WICB , AND ARE ALWAYS WILLING TO PUT THE SPOTLIGHT ON THE PLAYERS , not that the players dont deserve criticism , but most of the blame for our cricket has to be the West Indies Cricket Board .

The failure of the Pseudo Sports Journalists in the Region , is primarily responsible for the Pirates mis management , and maladminsitration of Cricket in the Region . They remain mute despite the faults , flaws and sins of the WICB

In a nut shell the Pseudo Sports Journalists in the Region are complicit with the WICB in the sad and sorry state our Cricket is in . THIS IS A FREAKING FACT .

Now there are in my opinion 2 options , if we truly want to improve Cricket in the Region , Either the WICB agrees to make drastic changes in its structure
and operation , in return the Regional Governments should allow them to operate their Regional Lottery . Naturally this agreement must be in black & white .

If the WICB refuse this request , then they must not get permission to set up a Regional Lottery , and procedures must be started to take control of the Governance of Cricket in the Region by the Governments establishing an autominus Quasi Government Agency to gover Cricket in the Region .

I just want to remind ALL & Sundry , that the Regional Governments spent millions of dollars to ensure that the World Cup was not a failure . The WICB spent absolutely nothing . BUT ARE SET TO COLLECT 104 MILLION DOLLARS OVER 4 YEARS

My perspective is that THE WICB OWES THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS A HELL OF A LOT . Operating like a Public Entity with certain strictures in place , is but a small price to pay for getting the Lottery .
