The announcement of the retirement of Brian Lara signals the end of an era.
Lara, the greatest batsman of his generation and to some even more, announced his retirement in a press conference following the West Indies win over Bangladesh. There is much controversy associated with Lara. None of them can overshadow the numerous records that he holds, with the two most prestigious being most runs in Test cricket, and highest scores in Test and first class cricket.

jump before pushed indeed...Cricinfo article makes clear that Messrs Roberts, Greenidge and Butts had decided to leave him out of the tour to England. He was forced to retire to avoid public humiliation. This is what Holding Croft Garner etc wanted. Now our future failures will be blamed on Brians poor legacy?

You Lara haters and detractors this ones for you.Though his leadership skills leaves alot to be desired, he will remain world class and the records will remain. Does Lara have to think, catch and bowl for players, he also has to bat for players, then there is no need for 11 players let him do it all. It is a team game, why should Lara be the one to score 100+ runs everytime he goes out to bat. There is duck, there is also 1, 10. 50, 50+, 100, and 100+ runs in cricket and the man is human. Because he is the worlds greatest does not mean he cannot go out for duck. I am hoping there will be another West Indian great soon, I am still waiting for a Wicket taker or two since the departure of Curtley and Courtney, that will be the day. We let great individuals slip into oblivion, we learn nothing from them all we do to criticize and tear them apart. Lara is our own give him the love and respect he deserves. I am patiently waiting for his tell all book or his autobiography.
Sir Brian Charles Lara thanks for the memories, thanks for the records, thanks for the entertainment, thanks for everything.

Huh? Didn't he meet with them in Antigua to choose the team for the tour?

Lara was part of the selection panel who chose the squad, but the plotters would not cease.

However, for many of his critics on the ground, there is a salient lesson from Lara. There is no Caribbean government, no indigenous Caribbean business, no individual, who has reached the level of excellence at any profession which Lara has attained
We really getting carried away here. We have two Nobel Laureates in St Lucia and Lara has attained more than them in his profession?
Surely we can do better than that!!!!
