Sir Vivian Richards says that Ramnaresh Sarwan deserves the chance to captain the West Indies cricket team and although he acknowledges the sterling leadership qualities of Daren Ganga, he does not think that he should "leapfrog" over Sarwan for the most challenging of West Indian jobs.
He noted that Sarwan was always seen as a potential leader during his tenure as chairman of selectors, but noted that something went wrong since then and he had not quite lived up to his potential. However, he added that players always seem to enthusiastically rally around Sarwan whenever he was in charge of the team.

HEADLINE: Viv: Sarwan deserves Windies captaincy
In all this talk about the WI should of gone further in the WC, here you have Sir Viv picking an all star team and not 1 WI player made the team not even on reserve. Imagine MR Ranking AKA WIDE Ranking made as a reserve.
What a statement as to the kind of So called talent the WI has. at present no one on the team has cemented a permanent place.
I was asked a question the other day, "if loyd or Viv had this current crop of WI team how would the team have done. This just answered his question, cause he did not even pick 1, not 1.
Thanks Viv

Glad you see it but Viv won't pick up the glaring contradictions between his comments and reality.
Ask Viv to name the last decent Antiguan cricketer.
In reply to Chrissy Ask Viv to name the last decent Antiguan cricketer
Ithink the man is talking as a west indian! 8)
Now we know the real reason why the non-captain Lara retired; he did not make the whiskey team
Methink Lara is good enuff to make that team, mr Viv!
Why do we always refuse to honor our own peeps?
We really have a sick mentality as a people u nuh
In reply to Chrissy It is reall funny how you keep referring people about when they last produce a decent cricketer.
Now you gonna have to ask teh Trinnis the same thing soon cuz Lara aint playing na moe. How you go ask you friends da question?
if the captaincy doesn't go to Gayle it will be the biggest news story since I scored with my science teacher...
In reply to XDFIX I guess you guys do not understand that teh team was picked based on performance in the WC.
Which of the West Indians performed better than those named? It has nothing to do with who better or not.
In reply to Catsanus
You and your science teacher being scorers at a cricket match is newsworthy?
In reply to Catsanus
bigger than Phil getting hit on his head?
In reply to Chrissy
No Chrissy, we should ask him how many World Cup he hold.
So how come Lasith Malinga not in the 11? Or the reserves?
Which WC he talking about really? Can't be this one.
In reply to ganga_fan
Sure right about that, just underscores how these guys were operating as selectors, here you have all the facts, on video too and yet the most devsatating bowler in the WC is left out...
Why is Sanga there, he has not scored runs in this WC.
In reply to ganga_fan
Malinga is a slinging flinger, not a BOWLER!!!! He must be rehearsing for the re-make of David and Goliath
In reply to TrinCanJam
More than the retired, selfish, self-centered, Trini non-captain Lara!
I suspect you meant world records, which of course will be broken in due course. However, Sir Viv's World Cup triumph will follow him to the grave, i.e. it can never be taken away!

What a joke. Ganga just not the man. But the Board doing de leapfrog ting since Haynes days when he was VC. then they groom Hooper - bypass or sorry leapfrog, they groom Lara leapfrog by Walsh, then Wavel Hinds, who get lors somewhere. Last time was Sars. Maybe now he will get it. And I expect not to hear a word from Chetti Singh as he gets into action.
In reply to Isah
Sanga has only scored eight runs less than Gilchrist in this WC....
I feel he has actually kept better than Gilly.

It really sounds like a broken record year after year. It's time to buy a new CD instead of relying on vinyl.IMHO, excluding Lara and Chanderpaul, the WI has not produce a decent player in awhile.
In reply to Chrissy
Is that ur mantra now!! And when was the last time u wrote a sentence w/o mentioning Laura??
Give it a rest, man!! Life is dynamic but, U seem to be stuck in the past.
In reply to emanuel Brother Well said... I dont think I have to add anything...
I feel you have to be from TrinBago because you real smart
In reply to bryo123 Clive Lloyd also leap frog other candidates who had way captaincy experience and deh rest is history so I do not think Richards's logic on that holds any water.
In reply to denoke Man u are a breath of fresh air. Sober over Hunte, Richardson over Haynes, Lloyd over Gibbs
In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com
There is a difference between cc.com's "deserves the captaincy" and Richards' "deserves the chance to captain WI".
Perhaps that difference escaped your headline writer, or your headline writer deliberately set out to deceive.
In reply to ends SMILING WHEN HE SAID HE SCORE WITH HIS SCIENCE TEACH: HE MEANT HAD SEX WITH HER.. LAWD SOME OF YOU ARE TOO IGNORANT. BUT IS THAT NOT TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOR US?
Again we see the glaring destructive insularity of so many on the MB. Can they read simple English? The article said the Team was selected based on performance in this World Cup up to the semi finals. What about that don't you all understand?
