I can think of no better time in the history of West Indies cricket for the people who have repeatedly called for change to establish their moral and economic right to enforce it because of their current investment.

We've said our emotional investment in West Indies cricket ought to entitle us to some say in how it is run. That has fallen on deaf ears.

The WICB is the only business I know where those who own it do not invest a penny and live like parasites while dissing those who bring in the money.

I suspect we will go round and round on this one but powerless to do anything. i wonder if governments ganging together can force them out. This is such an intractable problem

What an idiotic commentary once again.

The WICB can only be forced to change or disband by someone or entity dealing from a position of strength. If the governments or whomever were to take over running cricket they wouldn't have the recognition of the ICC and none of the ICC countries will play against this dreadful West Indies team. At least when Kerry Packer took on cricket in Australia he was successful because he signed superstar talents, which in turn attracted the best possible opponents.

The problem is that those who profess to be Sports Journalists after years and years of propping up the inept & incompetent WICB aka the Pirates , have now deserted their bedfellows and like Saul on the road to Damascus have undergone a transformation .

IT IS INCOMBENT ON THEM TO ASK THE CRICKET FANS IN THE REGION FOR FORGIVENESS , FOR NOT SHINING A SEARCHING LIGHT ON THE WICB FOR DECADES .

These are the Charlatans who with the WICB are complicit in the sad sorry state of West Indies Cricket .

Apart from refusing to ask hard questions of the WICB , they have never looked at Cricket from a Regional Perspective . Their narrow imsular attitude , has spawned thousands of fans who like them preach the gospel of Insularity . In this regard they have also failed the Region .

They view their role as being the guardians of players from their Countries, by trying to see how many of the players from their countries they can get on the West Indies Team while refusing to acknowledge thge accomplishments of others .

My view is that these Charlatans must publicly acknowledge that by their decades of silence they have refused to ask pertinent questions of the WICB .

Never have they asked why there is no Transparency , no Accountability , no Term limitations in the WICB , true the WICB is a Private entity . BUT IT IS CHARGED WITH GOVERNING
CRICKET IN THE REGION . Therefore it aint no sacred cow that questions cannot be asked of its management of our Cricket . YET FOR DECADES THE PSEUDO SPORTS JOURNALISTS HAVE REMAINED SILENT .

Now it seems they are tripping over themselves possibly trying to outdo each other in their new found transformation .

Reality does speak to recognition of bargaining power as trenchant is saying.
guess what?
The people on the board are from among us...so we start there with a sustainable loud and forceful call for change.
2)Target the sponsors- no sponsor would take lightly to bad PR and backlash from the consuming public if we demand their support
3)Governments across the region aint deaf nor blind...votes count and our tax payers dollars counted even more over the past few years...that too is leverage.

If you want anything in your nations,regions to get mess up further invite your heads of state to take charge of it. They from my perspective are a group of inept, theives,blue/white collar criminals.

Look around the islands, Why so much of our people are still living like pigs in shacks! When those leaders are living like kings.

You know this reminds me of the truth. I am a Christian and could be nothingless. But I have always asked the Question of the many, Why does the Pastors lives in nice lovely houses and the poor church members live in run down houses can hardly pay their bills yet these men that call themselves preaching the word of God lives like king.

When Jesus spoke to a certain disciple, He stated Foxes have holes and Birds have nest but the Son of Man has no place to lay His Head.. I guess the greedy leaders of our time never truly read that Part of the Scripture they Jump to the Part that Says Enjoy the Abundant life..

Leave the filthy politicians out of the WICB.. We need men with vision, moral standing and dignity to run the institution not crookish Priministers or X Priministers. I don't trust none of those losers.

I would like them to setup a Quasi Governmental Agency to Govern Cricket in the Region .

In essence the Governments in the Region would not be directly in charge .

As I have stated there should be One entity , but 2 Departments .

A Cricket Department to deal with all Cricket Matters , and a
Finance Department to deal with all other matters not related to Cricket .

THE CRICKET DEPARTMENT TO CONSISTS OF ONLY FORMER GREAT PLAYERS .

THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT TO CONSIST OF MBA. ACCOUNTANTS ETC.

BUT THERE NEEDS TO BE A PERSONNEL INVENTORY OF PEOPLE WORKING AT FACTORY ROAD .

I suspect there are many square pegs in round holes at Factory Road .

A complete restructuring of the Regional Boards is necessary , THE POWER OF THE REGIONAL BOARD PRESIDENTS MUST BE CURBED .

They are the persons who have crippled Cricket in the Region .

I agree that there must be a firewall between the Regional Governments and the new Entity . Obviously that would have to be fleshed out .

But bear in mind that the Regional Governments will have toat times give money to this Entity .

To me it sounds simple enough. If we're really fed up with the WICB's performance. They need to understand that the game doesn't belong to them, it really belongs to us, and they're joyriding in a stolen vehicle. Let's let the air out of the tyres, hit them where it hurts, lets think long term a la Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement, Montgomery citizens didn't like the transportation system so they took the bus!! Change must come. Simply boycott the WICB's product, and make it known, let's intentionally spend our money to go watch some curry goat cricket scheduled to run at the same time as the next home series.
Let them know the reason why there are all those empty seats and we're all squeezed into a smaller ground watching sub standard cricket (which coincidentally is what the board has been providing us with)during the next home series. They'll know why there are no WI supporters travelling with the team to England, and wherever else they travel for the next year. Joyriding aint that much fun in a lemon.

You do have a point that I have often heard at many a board meeting. Government is inept and greedy etc. for the most part that is true and secondly...those who might want to make a difference have to check their closets first. Fine.

my experience has taught me that when u identify a politician/someone of influence who feels passionately about a particular subject and takes the time to confer with the players, you will get results. My own PM Owen Arthur loves cricket and has on more than one occasion has privately called many of the board members of the BCA to meetings to thrash things out,especially surrounding this world cup. On the other hand he too has voiced his concern about Governments regionally becoming too involved...What I read from his actions vs his statements is that he is not willing to sit idly by while people lose focus surrounding cricket administration but publicly he has stated the hands off approach. (this was in response to some utterances from Keith Mitchell some time ago).
there is a place for a private /public sector partnership. Hoteliers, merchandisers,crictical government agencies from Security to Sanitation/environmental issues can all play a part.
They must as they can all benefit or be put under pressure everytime we host big cricket events. I know this seems a little off topic so let me pull it back and summarise.
We do need independant auditors who can insure transparency in accounting and proper management of funding received from the public purse. The private company fact has been abused for far too long and that in itself no longer can obtain going forward.

In reply to powen001 Mr. Powen, Thank you for your information! I am happy Mr. Owen is a man of integrity and is willing to play an important part in the regional issues affecting cricket.

I hope as he evalutes the situation, he will be able to give recommendations that will bring about an effective change within the infrastructure of the WICB. I am sure if government funds are involved they will want to have a say in how tax payers funds are disseminated.

With that in mind, I am willing to compromise with the aid of a credible government official to effect a change within the ranks of the WICB. I am sure they ( WICB) would not object to such a stipulation.

If y'all want to see insularity and backbiting let the govts take over the running of cricket. You'll start hearing who give more money so they should have more players, or the captain should come from that island etc etc....

In addition, after overspending on stadia, we are asking the same govts to spend MORE tax payers money on running cricket?

If the expected post WC slump is to hit, as it surely will, where do you think funding will be cut from first?
