by RAWLE BRANCKER
(Editor's Note: This is the part two of a lecture delivered by former Cricket World Cup 2007 chairman Rawle Brancker at UWI's Sir Frank Worrell memorial lecture. Read part one here.)
Ladies and Gentlemen, my philosophy is that we must not make the error of parking by the difficulty or bad past for too long, otherwise, the solution may very well pass us by.
What therefore is the likely future of West Indies Cricket now that I, if not you, have settled that given its present structure, the WICB is irrelevant to West Indies future cricket development. Somewhat like our star batsman, it should disband or dissolve itself and let us look at a new approach.

Some of POINT's ideas have been belatedly stolen. They are just not written in capitals.

Thank you, Mr. Branker for the exposure you've given these ideas. The battle has been joined for the resurrection of our legacy. 8) 8) 8)

I am a little surprise this important topic/discussion is not getting much imput from CC posters. Gee there was no Lara worship and/or bashing so it is not deemed important.
For the record I support this approach even though I personally perfer a single owner.
Well done Mr. Rawle Brancker you have certainly put forward a way forward for West Indies Cricket. The time is right to get rid of the WICB as we know it for all the reasons outlined by Mr. Rawle Brancker and more.
Thank you Sir for thia timely call to arms.

Thanks , I am firmly of the belief that it is imperative that whatever entity is going to be the Governing Body for Cricket in the Region , NOT BE CALLED THE WICB .
So that we can leave those sad chapters in the realm of past History .
WE need a fresh start , and as is stated in the Good Book , let us no pour new wine in old bottles .
I have noted with interest that only a few of the Pseudo Sports Journalists , have now undergone
a transformation , and are now being critical of the Pirates .
I am very very serious when I state that these Charlatans for decades have been complicit with the WICB in the sorry state Cricket has become in the Region .
They have had wide readership &
Listeners , but did absolutely nothing to relieve us from the yoke of the WICB , an entity that is continuously fighting with its players over money , and is always at the losing end of these battles .
An entity that selected Chetram Singh to be the President of the
WICB , NOTE I SAID SELECT NOT ELECT , with the full knowledge and understanding that they were
in violation of the ICC rules &
Regulations .
DID WE HEAR AN OUTCRY FROM THE
CHARLATANS ???? . Personally I was deafened by their silence .
It is for that and other reasons why I know that they have been complicit with the Pirates in the failure of Cricket in the Region .
To have any semblance of respect from the Public , they must Apologize to the Public , and promise to be investigative of all entities purporting to do things in the Public's Interest .

If the local boards are the problem in WI cricket, how does making the WICB a public company by selling shares solve the problem of the local boards?

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com Sorry but this is warmed over soup.
He had nothing to say, no wonder darling ran all over him.
It is sad that some given soo much authority can have so little to offer.
Of note, nobody is trying to reduce the role of the board to maintain good governanace over the affairs of WI cricket and have a new executive professional management team in place.
For example, if the management team failed to negotiate contracts in time ahead of a stipulated deadline, ..., drag feet; fire them; that's the role of the board. The board should not be trying to get involved in the process itself.
if the management team, can't arrange proper fixtures and sponsorship; fire them; its not for the board to be negotiating such.
That's the problem with WI cricket; the board does not know its place and always overreaches its responsibility and marginalizes the management of WI cricket.
So for an idea we'll have the WICB with curtailed powers and the WICMC - in charge of managing the cricket product.
More on this latter.

Only had time to read Part 1, a fabulous presentation, the man is on point in everyway. Kudos to the man RAWLE BRANCKER dont know anything about him but he comes across as a stalwart in coherent reasoning here he clearly understands the chicanery
Of the WICB and he is not afraid to call a spade, a spade.

In reply to POINT Mr. Point, maybe those Journalist were given WICB chastity during the many decade as our cricket decay. Smiling In this case it would not be sexual abstinence, But Journalistic abstinence!
How could they be critical of their support system, I presume their pecuniary cow. Unlike you and I, we have nothing to lose so we can call sin, sin and horse manure, horse manure.
They on the other hand were given charity to look the other way and proclaim the WICB as the Sanctified Elitist of cricket in the region.
But as the Good book says, behold your sins will find you out! Those Journalist have squandered their given right to be truthful, forthright and honest during those long period of time in our cricket history, they were influence by donations and other amenities that comes with being a Journalist. To be honest, they makes me want to eructate!
So now the sins of the WICB is perceived throughout the region, now the Journalistic mewl is not recognizable, I think they should be silent it has always been that way! We won't be losing any sleep.

While the analysis is pretty good, the recommended solutions are eminently impractical and belong in the realm of pie-in-the-sky, being far too convoluted and complicated to be implemented and managed by a region whose people cannot unite to run a doubles cart successfully.
The business of cricket is cricket, and cricket should remain it's core business. Whoever attempts to run WI cricket cannot also get involved in a "department store" type of operation that will distract from and adversely affect the running of cricket business.
Mr. Brancker also glibly sidesteps saying exactly how the WICBandits would be forced to restructure themselves. He gives no definite stragtegy that would achieve that. Thus, he joins the ranks of those who proffer theoretical solutions that have no basis in the real life situation.
The truth is that there is no solution for the problem of the WICBandits unless the cricketers decide to take extreme action and get the support of the regional governments and peoples to oust the WICBandits and cause the ICC to accept the ovethrow. But what are the chances of that happening?
Slim and none, since caribbean peoples and governments cannot unite on anything that does not have their individual self-interests at heart and the majority of people who say they support WI cricket will support the problem instead of the solution.
Interestingly, while the Rev Wes Hall had all the solutions for the ills of the players and the cricket teams, he had none for the ills of the WICBandits, who constitute the real problem. Why, he even appears to be blissfully unaware of the fact that they are the root problem.
Perhaps that is not as unusaul as it might appear. After all, if you are part of the problem you are not likely to acknowledge that and/or be part of the solution. Add to that the fact that no ex-player, great or not, has done anything or attempted to do anything to improve WI cricket up to this time.
In the end, Mr. Brancker's effort reads like a nice essay on the subject, but offers nothing of real substance as far as realistic solutions go. Thus, it will end up on the shelf gathering dust.
My conclusion is the he does not yet understand the real problem - that "WI" cricket is dead and obsolete.
And that's a great pity.

In reply to redbaron Boy o boy, what defeatist attitude right out of the gate, Mr. Brancker suggested several wonderful and cogent ideas that should not be dismissed so casually.
You cant just throw up your hands and say there is no hope.
Mr. Brancker is not delusional, he said the following
Call me naïve, but with the right corporate charter in place, I would one of the 4 dollars I have to purchase however many shares that would fetch and I dont think I am alone. And unlike you I believe if voting share holders are given the right to oust defectively performing board members, they wouldnt hesitate.
Once your money is at stake I think you would be surprised how collectively cohesive the disparate Caribbean investors will be.
People discriminate on any and anything but money.
The only job protection board members and directors should have is performance.

It is, however, naïve, to expect a group of demigods to self destruct and leave all of the nice perks of being a Board member
followed by this suggestion establish a new pan Caribbean entity, owned and financed by the real owners of West Indies Cricket the people
