Just as you think things can't get worse in the West Indies, something happens to prove you wrong.
Yesterday's comments by Bruce Aanensen, the WICB's recently-installed chief executive, regarding player contracts for the forthcoming tour of England were about as inflammatory as anything that has gone before. In fairly blunt terms, he effectively sent a message to the team to shut up and do as they were told. It was the rhetoric of a pre-union boss to his disgruntled employees.

"for months the board agreed with WIPA, the players' association, that the tour needed a separate contract, only to go back on its word at last minute. the board is deliberately spoiling for a fight.
But why? The reason seems to be that the players, who have been appallingly treated for generations by their own board, have recently started to stand their ground, and what's more they dealt some embarrassing blows to the WICB.
the spirit of the agreement is fairly clear, but, as generations of West Indies players have learned, the board is too enamoured with anything as intangible as that."

WICB have no people skills. They really believe they're handling cane workers from back int eh days. What they cannot grasp is that the cricketers are the product. Not one of them invests a penny of his own money in cricket. Dis is funny bad.

"Dis is funny bad. "
No is sad bad. Is bad enough the game without this facting board cutting it's own throat.
As Lara said, you can't have disciplined players without a disciplined board.

One of the few times I agree with WIPA on this one.
A management strategy like the one above does NOT lead to a Win/Win situation.
It leaves one party to stand down and LOSE ( and by extension feel humiliated) which only leads to(the party that lost) that party look for opportunities for "retribution" in the future - (especially these comments coming from a newbie)
In general, stategies like this does not work well with humans and leads to decrease productivity as opposed to the desired improved productivity.

Wait...the WICB has been using these strong arm tactics forever and you saying this is one of the few times you agree with WIPA? So all the other times the WICB has been trying to screw the players you've been agreeing with the WICB huh?
So do tell us, what has WIPA done differently this time to bring about your "conversion?" What has the WICB done differently this time to lose your support? I'm mightly curious.

Sabina, like you see de curious "conversion" of dax to. Yu tink it have anything to do wid de fact dat a beloved guyanese now is captain?
In reply to dax Smiling! One of the greatest thing that came out of slavery! Those of us from the West Indies will not tolerate anyone treating us as slaves! Majority of us are from the Ashanti Tribe, This tribe that cultivate within its ranks, Queens and Kings and Princes and Princesses! Note during Slavery, especially in Jamaica! That tribe the Ashanti always rebel.. Hence White folks started to refuse to purchase them for their plantations! They were too strong and confident in their heritage and thus refuse to be a SLAVE FOR NO ONE!
Maybe WICB.. is forgetting their HISTORY!!!! Read the Book: Hebrewism of West Africa!
The main problem with those who currently occupy the seats on the WICB ,is the fact that they inherited an Entity that was run by the " Elites " in the Region years ago .
Sir Frank Worrell broke that Tradition , by being forceful regarding Cricket in the Region , and as I have stated amany times forced the Board and the Selectors to consider players from the Windward & Leeward Islands to be considered to the West Indies Team .
When Worrell died things reverted to the old ways of doing buisness , in that members of the Board , never mind they were of a darker hue , considered themselves as Masters and the Players as serfs . A throwback to the pre Worrell era .
So we are now saddled by a collection of men who delight in mimicing the so called elites who governed Cricket in days of yore .
That is precisely one of the reasons why we must have a name change in whatever entity governs Cricket in the Region .
WE NEED A CLEAN BREAK FROM THE PAST . ANY ENTITY GOVERNING CRICKET IN THE REGION MUST CEASE AND DESIST FROM LOOKING AT THE RELATIONSHIP WITH ITS PLAYS AS THAT OF MASTER & SERFS .
Until & unless this attitude is changed we will forever be spinning top in mud .
Now the persons currently on the Board are supposedly men with intelligence , but it is quite apparent that they have no freaking commonsense . there is a distinct difference between intelligence and commonsemse .
Now the state of Cricket in the Region is as it is because the Pirates either refuse to acknowledge the distinction or are ignorant of the fact that there is a distinction .
The end result is that our cricket is currently in ruins ,simply because the members of the Board believe in having an antagonistic relationship with its own players .
Perhaps that is the reason why they send the players out to play with many of the components
that other teams have , missing .
THEY ARE TRULY NOT INTERESTED IN THE TEAM DOING WELL , NEITHER ARE THEY INTERESTED IN THE STANDARD OF CRICKET IN THE REGION RAISED .
They are only interested in 2 things , Getting money , how they spend it only God knows , and Fighting its own players over money , compounded by having the Team play without necessary resources that would make the Team competitive .
Who knows perhaps they do this out of sheer spite , and they want the team to fail , you see if as Ken Gordon desired , there was to be lots of new players playing for the WICB , the salaries that they would be getting as first time players would be much less than the salaries the current players are getting .
Ken I know about that trick ,it is straight out of the Corporate World play book , DONT TRY THAT , so wheel and come again .
YOU AND THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE BOARD NEED TO ACT LIKE MEN AND NOT MANICOU .
