Perhaps the major reason there has not yet been a substantive coup in the management of West Indies cricket lies within the realm of recognition by the international governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC).

It is certainly not because no alternatives have been proposed. If it is one thing West Indians have given generously, it is their thoughts on how the cricket they love should be run. Taken one by one, the ideas offer partial solutions as they often deal with one aspect at a time. However, a careful study of the collection (such as the one generated by the 2000 CARICOM/UWI cricket conference) yields a comprehensive range of proposals for the development of the game.

Do you suppose that these other boards would give support of this kind of coup de grace??? Even on their death bed these boards will try to hold on to power. So they will not trigger this kind of trend which would give a clear notion of how to destroy themselves.

Very interesting and thought provoking piece there Vaneisha. But rastaman does raise an interesting and equally thought provoking point. The ICC which is made up of other boards may see this as not just a threat to the WICB but as a threat to themselves. They are likely to react defensively.

However the question to rasta is how long will they (the ICC) be able to stave off market forces? If say an investor decides to take over WI cricket, and essentially buys off the services of the cricketers, how long can the ICC stick its head in the sand and pretend they don't exist? If they do so, they would probably be risking their existence even more don't you think?

We definetly do not need a hostile take over as suggested,as a matter of fact I was expecting a better suggestion from this popular journalist but after assinating Sarwan's character.... well what's new.

Instead of having a additional league why don't we have several regional tournaments and create more territories e.g. allow Antuiga to play as themselves or ask each territory to provide 2 team,an A & B.

Regional competition is already watered down and you want to split up territories even more? Explain how that would help.

VB's suggestion may have been a vague possibility - however far-fetched - if the WICB was still in debt. Now - if I understand the numbers I've been seeing, they are probably sitting on a surplus of £85m (£100m - £15m?? What would happen to that money if there was a "coup"?

Splitting territories will expose more players and give us a bigger pool to choose from,similiar like the WICB IX,President's IX etc.
I agree that the reginal competition is watered down as a result or poor facitilites,management and indisciplined player & officials but it doesn't mean we should throw our hand in the air and surrender.One of the first steps we need to make in this reform process is to lift the standards of this competition and expose our players in a compeditive environment over a longer period of time so that they can handle the mental and physical pressures of international cricket.

How about a first and second division, with promotion and relegation and appropriate incentives?? More players will get exposed and more cricket will get played - but presumably we will need more more money to run things....

WHat I dislike about people like this lady is that all of a sudden WI Cricket needs to be fixed, captains need to be responsible and there is an overriding 'problem'.

Her article on Sarwan wasnt just insular. It was fake. And right now she needs to be added to the list of fake practitioners of journalism around the Caribbean.

Stick to fighting for womens access to QPCC ms Baiksh. You have been outed.
