I don't think you can ever fill his shoes, as a batsman or a captain.

Oh the highs and the lows...

Brian Lara is peerless as a batsman and his absence will create a void that will not be filled in this generation.

I would hope though that Ronnie Sarwan would have greater aspiration than to try to fill Lara's shoes as a captain because, quite frankly, Lara was an ordinary captain whose tenure was marked by myriad conflicts with team mates, selectors, former players, groundsmen and other stakeholder in West Indies cricket.

Sadly, we may not get any better for another 5 years. Our best chance is for Taylor and Rampaul to become world class bowlers when they are in the 28 to 30 y.o. range.

So why was Lara expected to win the World Cup then?

That's a question for those who had that expectation...

Well Holding insisted we had a good chance.

Good question in the context of what is now being said :?

It's hysterically funny. Apparently we must not expect to win now because Brian is gone so I need to find out if Brian alone was expected to win before?

It brings into question the intentions or motives of some because this seems like insurance to prevent any possible backlash, which is unlikely - It is sad that we have never had a proper sending off of any player - not andy, not Viv, not Holding, not Gordon - and those who experienced it now perpetuate the same metapatterns -

I trust you are being deliberately sarcastic, or merely side-stepping the issues. Didn't Lara himself stuck around to play in the WC, as he was also convinced that he could be part of another record, i.e. first WC winning host??? Wouldn't he have retired before the WC if he believed the team did not have a chance of winning? My brethren Mikey Holding has an opinion like anyone else, and of course he is entitled to it.
