Last week, Trinidad and Tobago's outgoing Sports Minister Roger Boynes revealed that the stalled Tarouba Sport Complex was to be expanded to accommodate a reconfigured Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

The project had been estimated at TT$ 850 million. Academy costs have now risen from TT$ 275 million to TT$ 558 million – an estimate, the Minister cautioned. Total cost is now a billion dollars – an estimate as: "we're not at that particular level yet."

I don't see what the fuss is all about, if T&T wants to build a sports complex that includes training facilities for cricket. If the WICB determines that it prefers to resuscitate the Shell Academy in Grenada, then that's where the academy will be. When the team is in Trinidad, hopefully the sports complex will be available for use without any attendant sour grapes. Likewise when the team is in Barbados we trust that the UWI facilities will be put at its disposal.

Let's not make this an issue, when it clearly is not.

The issue for Trinidadians is not if TnT want independent facilities or will they pull out of the W.I. but is the fact that they are so many other current sporting facilities that are suffering for funding and are currently underutilized. These mega projects in TnT are only to line the pockets of a few individuals. We have a health system in disarray, a understaffed, undertrained non functioning justice system (judiciary and police) and struggling education system yet we will spend more than 800 mil on a sport stadium that will NOT be maintained like the others we have.

This is so sad yet is happening

I agree totally! Fortis is very prejudice against Trinidad and Trinidadians, so be aware!

Some will have us practice for the world cup on the beaches - may work like Gilchrist's squash ball- When Lequay gave out equipment directly to the clubs from Government funding, what was the impact. There is 'alleged" talent, there is support, and then there is performance-some want two but not one

You are entitled to your opinion of course, but you are dead wrong with your generalized assessment that "Fortis is very prejudice against Trinidad and Trinidadians, so be aware!"

For your information, I know people from as far south as Moruga, to POS. Some of my best friends are Trinbagonians and some of my best experiences occurred while I lived in Trinidad for 3 years! The fact that I repel the ridiculous commentaries of some of the posters who are Trinidadian when I deem necessary obviously has influenced your opinion. I make no apologies for anything that I have posted in the past.

Your comments are noted, and it is difficult to disregard the priorities that should be in place. However, I am not sure that the government is to be blamed for the under-utilization of existing facilities, as there are enough sporting competitions taking place frequently in T&T. The people need to step forward and take advantage of the facilities, through negotiated leases, rentals or pro bono for community benefits. It really isn't a bad problem to have, if you stop to think about it.

Whether or not the new mega facility is needed should have been determined long before the first construction equipment arrived at the site.

What comes first, the cart or the horse? Clean up the system that the benefits
of such a massive undertaking can be realized, other wise .....

Truth stand all alone! Hence I would not try to defend a lie.

I think he tells the truth and often times those that wears' the cap never likes the way it fits.

So do what is right and you will not have to worry about getting your act adjusted.

Everyone wants the Government to be their mother and father! Why don't they the people step to the plate and initiate activities that can produce the necessary funds to finish their project.
