Its all Jozy Altidore, her boyfriend’s fault – the US soccer team was knocked out of the world cup and she is in mourning.

US Open 2017: Sloane Stephens - from world number 957 to Grand Slam winner

Sabalenka, ranked 78th, took the game to Stephens in a gripping contest of contrasting styles, and it was the Belarusian teenager's aggressive all-or-nothing tennis that won the day against the more defensive American.

Sloane was by no means UNKNOWN!!!!
She was the Golden girl of American tennis in 2013 after she beat Serena in the Australian Open.

was the first time hearing of her. Not a major tennis follower. only watch majors.

But the head line was: Un-ranked Slone beats Serena to take US open

I said once she would win one GS and she has. Timing is everyting in some sports. Lots of top ramked players got clobbered this year and Sloane got her break. Back to the 20s for her next year as is norm

Sloane, if she stays focused, can give any top 5 player a competitive match, if not outright beat them. Many have questioned her resolve and mental strength. It's not her physical gifts and skills that have let her down in times past. Lots of times she's showed no heart....

Maybe Stephens is compared too much with Serena, who's fighting spirit and never-say-die attitude is there for all to see.

I wish her the goodness...she certainly has the tools!!
